Weekend al cinema / Weekend at the cinema

IT: Una volta finito il periodo di "clausura" per malattia, anche se non stessi per niente bene, ho deciso che prima di buttarmi nelle fiame del lavoro e della vita quotidiana🔥 per ritrovare il gusto di vivere, avrei dovuto godermi qualche uscita al cinema. Ecco come in due giorni sono riuscita a vedere ben tre film, certo il fatto che il costo di alcuni biglietti sia 3,50 e che al pomeriggio presto i posti di parcheggio disabili sono ancora liberi (non che solitamente fossero occupati da portatori di handicap) ha aiutato molto. E visto che trovi finalmente posto di parcheggio, cosa fai, te ne vai? Nooo, resti a vedere un secondo film e la volta dopo ne scegli uno che duri tanto da far valere la soddisfazione di aver occupato quel posto con un tagliando regolare. 

ENG: Once the period of "seclusion" due to illness was over, even if I wasn't well at all, I decided that before throwing myself into the flames of work and everyday landatain order to rediscover the joy of living, I could enjoy a few trips to the cinema.  This is how in two days I managed to see three films, certainly the fact that the cost of some tickets is 3.50 and that in the early afternoon the disabled parking spaces are still vacant (not that they were usually occupied by disabled people), it helped a lot.  And since you finally find a parking space, what do you do, do you leave?  Nooo, you stay to see a second movie and the next time you choose one that lasts long enough to make the satisfaction of having occupied that place with a regular perment worth while.

IT: Dopo questa piccola parentesi introduttiva (sarcastica, ironica ed amareggiata), vi parlerò dei film visti. 

Come grande ammiratrice di Denzel Washington, sono andata a vedere Equalizer 3 e sono stata realmente contenta della mia scelta. L'azione si svolge in Italia, iniziando con la Sicilia e salendo piano, piano fino a Napoli e la costiera Amalfitana. Stavolta Robert McCall (l'ex agente C.I.A al quale il vecchio Denzel ha dato vita), combatte la mafia italiana, una trama abbastanza stereotipata ma che funziona benissimo. I dialoghi italiani erano eletrizzanti, gli attori pure, e non parlo solo di Dakota Fanning che confesso, cominciava a mancarmi, ma anche di giovane promesse italiane come Gaia Scodellaro e Andrea Dodero e l'ambientazione era il meglio del meglio, curata nei più minimi dettagli. Il film è riuscito a catturare per bene le abitudini del popolo italiano, la loro generosità, il desiderio di fidarsi del prossimo e l'intrasigenza davanti ai cambiamenti e l'Hollywood ha saputo sfruttare al massimo tutto questo per realizzare, a mio avviso, il miglior Equalizer finora. È anche il più sanguinoso di tutti ma come l'italiano che veste con stile qualsiasi indumento, anche questo film usa la violenza con il pennello di un grande maestro. 

Chi sa se ce sarà un'altro sequel visto che Denzel Washington aveva dichiarato che questo sarebbe stata l'ultima volta in cui avrebbe imperssonato il famoso giustiziere. Forse, visto che il regista, Antoine Fuqua vuole fare un'origin story, vedremo presto qualc'un altro nei panni di un giovane agente che impara a uccidere senza pietà  Voi avete visto Equalizer 3? Vi è piaciuto? Se lo dovessi valutare con un voto e considerando che Denzel è uno dei miei attori preferiti, per me questo film si merita un -8.

ENG: After this small introductory parenthesis (sarcastic, ironic and embittered), I will talk to you about the movies I've seen.

 As a huge fan of Denzel Washington, I went to see Equalizer 3 and was really happy with my choice.  The action takes place in Italy, starting with Sicily and moving slowly up to Naples and the Amalfi coast.  This time Robert McCall (the former CIA agent whom the old Denzel gave life to) fights the Italian mafia, a fairly stereotyped plot but that works very well.  The Italian dialogues were electrifying, the actors too, and I'm not just talking about Dakota Fanning, who I confess, I was starting to miss, but also about young Italian promises like Gaia Scodellaro and Andrea Dodero and the setting was the best of the best, with attention to the smallest details.

The movie managed to capture well the habits of the Italian people, their generosity, the desire to trust others and the intransigence in the face of changes and Hollywood was able to make the most of all this to achieve, in my opinion, the best Equalizer so far. It is also the bloodiest of all but like the Italian who dresses any garment with style, this film also uses violence with the brush of a great master.

Who knows if there will be another sequel given that Denzel Washington had declared that this would be the last time he would play the famous vigilante. Maybe, since the director, Antoine Fuqua wants to make an origin story, we will soon see someone else in the role of a young agent who learns to kill without mercy. If I had to rate it with a grade and considering that Denzel is one of my favorite actors, for me this film deserves a -8.

Have you seen Equalizer 3? Did you like it?

IT: Andiamo con ordine e visto che vi avevo già detto che avevamo visto due film nella stessa giornata, aggiungo che dopo Equalizer 3, avevamo deciso di andare a vedere The Nun 2. Un'altro sequel mi direte, beh, noi siamo cosi, abbiamo le nostre saghe e i nostri blockbuster che non possiamo non vedere al cinema. Quindi un sequel della famiglia Conjuring sulla più famosa suora demonio non poteva passare inosservato. Questo film riprende da dove è finito il primo e abbiamo ancora Taissa Farmiga e Jonas Bloquet come personaggi principali. Come vi ricorderete nel caso abbiate visto il primo film della saga, il demone Valak non è stato ucciso nel monastero Santa Carta perché una piccola parte di sé è sopravvissuta nascosta in Maurice, "il Francese" e stavolta a darle la caccia è sorella Irene, divenuta suora nel frattempo aiutata anche ella da una novizia, nei panni di suor Debra, una giovane fanciulla con un passato ingiusto e turbolento. Su internet avevo letto che questo film era più debole e meno bello rispetto al primo film della saga ma secondo il mio parere è tutto il contrario. Secondo me, in questo film hanno migliorato alcuni aspetti che nel primo lasciavano un po' da desiderare e gli attori sembravano più preparati e convincenti, qualcosa del tipo, "repetitia docet" o simile. Comunque, dopo altre leggende infrante e miti distorti, The Nun II arriva a consegnare la giusta quantità di brividi senza esagerare o annoiare. Se siete amanti dei film dell'orrore noterete sicuramente e apprezzerete la differenza perché altrimenti non mi sento di consigliare questo film. Meglio del primo e per me un ben meritato 6.

ENG: Let's go in order and since I had already told you that we had seen two films on the same day, I add that after Equalizer 3, we had decided to go and see The Nun 2. Another sequel you will tell me, well, we are like that, we have our sagas and our blockbusters that we cannot miss seeing at the cinema.  So a Conjuring family sequel about the most famous demon nun could not go unnoticed.  This movie picks up where the first one ended and we still have Taissa Farmiga and Jonas Bloquet as the main characters.  As you will remember if you have seen the first film of the saga, the demon Valak was not killed in the Santa Carta monastery because a small part of him survived hidden in Maurice, "the Frenchman" and this time it is sister Irene who is hunting it, having become a nun in the meantime, also helped by a novice, in the role of Sister Debra, a young girl with an injust and turbulent past. I had read on the internet that this movie was scarcer and less interesting than the first one in the saga but in my opinion it is quite the opposite.  In my opinion, in this film they improved some aspects that in the first one left a little to be desired and the actors seemed more prepared and convincing, probably due to, "repetitia docet" or something of sort.  However, after other broken legends and distorted myths, The Nun II manages to deliver just the right amount of thrills without overdoing or boring.  If you are a lover of horror movies you will definitely notice and appreciate the difference because otherwise I would not recommend this film to you.  Better than the first one and for me a well deserved 6.

IT: Dopo questo slalom fra film pensati per risvegliare i sensi e mettere in moto l'adrenalina, arriviamo al re dei film appena visti, un film che non risveglia solo emozioni e reazioni fisiche ma un film che ti coinvolge intellettualmente e moralmente, un film che non aspettava altro che essere guardato per diventare quello che realmente è, cioè una capodopera artistica. Il film in questione è Oppenheimer e ciò che fa di lui una vera opera d'arte non è solo il cast stellare che comprende nomi come Cilian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Josh Hartnett e tantissimi altri ma anche la storia che si sviluppa grazie a riprese concise, dialoghi furbi, colpi di scena e svolte inaspettate in un evento che segnò per sempre il destino di tutta l'umanità, la costruzione della prima bomba atomica. Ciliam Murphy recita la parte di J. Robert Oppenheimer, un fisico ebreo, padre della bomba atomica, mentre Robert Downey Jr recita la parte del suo antagonista, il politico senza scrupoli e senza rimorsi. Quello che all'inizio sembrava il nascere di una grande amicizia, evolve in modo subdolo come un tumore nella più grande controversia che il mondo scientifico abbia mai conosciuto e seguire gli eventi che portarono a tutto questo è una vera delizia. 

Se volete vedere i vostri attori preferiti recitare nei ruoli più diversi e inconsueti che abbiate mai immaginato, andate a vedere questo film, sicuramente non resterete delusi. Non sento di aver spoilerato niente in quanto la storia la sappiamo tutti ma nessuno avrebbe immaginato queste dinamiche e questi giochi d'intenti prima di vedere questo film. Non avete possibilità di andare al cinema? Allora noleggiatelo appena disponibile sullo streaming online e vi assicuro, non vi pentirete, in quanto non ci sono mai stati soldi spesi meglio per un film. Per me, qui parliamo di un 10 e lode. 

ENG: After this slalom between movies designed to awaken the senses and set the adrenaline in motion, we arrive at the king of the films we have just seen, a film that not only awakens emotions and physical reactions but a movie that involves you intellectually and morally, a production that didn't await for anything else than to be seen so to become what it really is, that is, an artistic masterpiece. The film in question is Oppenheimer and what makes it a true work of art is not only the stellar cast which includes names like Cilian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Josh Hartnett and many others but also the story developed thanks to concise shots, clever dialogues, twists and unexpected turns in an event that forever marked the fate of all humanity, the construction of the first atomic bomb. Ciliam Murphy plays the part of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a Jewish physicist, father of the atomic bomb, while Robert Downey Jr plays the part of his antagonist, the unscrupulous and remorseless politician.  What initially seemed like the birth of a great friendship evolves as subtly as a tumor into the greatest controversy the scientific world has ever known, and following the events that led to it, is a true delight.

 If you want to see your favorite actors play the most different and unusual roles you have ever imagined, go and see this film, you definitely won't be disappointed. I don't feel like I've spoiled anything as we all know the story but no one would have imagined these dynamics and these games of intent before seeing this film.  Don't have a chance to go to the cinema?  Then rent it as soon as it is available on online streaming and I assure you, you will not regret it, as there has never been money better spent on a film.  For me, here we are talking about a full marks 10.

Solo Cose Belle - Settembre 2021 / Only beautiful things - September 2021

Carissimi amici e lettori, 

È arrivato finalmente il momento di condividere con voi le cose belle che ho vissuto al mese di settembre. 

Prima di tutto vorrei parlarvi di un film che mi ha fortemente impressionato e perciò per me è stato una bella esperienza. Ho visto diversi film al cinema  ma questo è l'unico che ha una storia vera e tratta un'argomento importante che merita finalmente di essere portato all'attenzione del mondo intero. Il film è Blue Bayou, scritto e diretto da Justin Chon (che tra l'altro recita anche la parte del protagonista), un film che nonostante l'argomento triste che tratta, è un film talmente ben realizzato che è stato nominato alla sezione Un Certain Regard del 74° Festival di Cannes. Confesso di essermi emozionata moltissimo e di aver guardato più della del film con gli occhi lucidi. Qualcuno potrebbe chiedersi come posso considerare una cosa bella, una storia triste, tanto triste da far piangere. Beh, la risposta è semplice, perché è stata fatta con il cuore, perché è stata realizzata bene, perché fa riflettere e perché ha fatto correre una cosa che spero non diventi mai immobile in me, la mia mente, il mio pensiero. Non voglio fare spoiler e quindi non vi racconterò il film perché voglio prima di tutto farvi venire voglia di vederlo. E se ci andate, restate fino alla fine, perché dopo quello che è un finale hollywoodiano, che probabilmente è stato il motivo per il quale il film non ha vinto il premio al festival di Cannes, l'argomento che ha ispirato la pellicola diventa concreto e sconvolgente.

The time has finally come for me to share with you the beautiful things I experienced in September.

First of all I would like to tell you about a movie that greatly impressed me and therefore it was a good experience for me.  I have seen several films at the cinema but this is the only one that has a true story and deals with an important topic that finally deserves to be brought to the attention of the whole world.  The film is Blue Bayou, written and directed by Justin Chon (who among other things also plays the part of the protagonist), a movie that despite the sad story it relates to, is a film so well made that it was nominated in the section A Certain Regard at the 74th Cannes Film Festival.  I confess I was very excited and watched more than half of the movie with tears in my eyes.  Some may wonder how I can consider a beautiful thing, a sad story, so sad it makes you cry.  Well, the answer is simple, because it was done with the heart, because it was done well, because it makes you think and because it put motion to something that I hope will never get blocked in me, my mind, my thoughts.  I don't want to make spoilers so I won't tell you more about the movie because I want to make you want to see it first.  And if you go there, stay until the end, because after what is a Hollywood ending, which was probably the reason why the film did not win the award at the Cannes Film Festival, the argument that inspired the film becomes obvious and shocking.

Dopo avervi parlato di questo film vorrei condividere con voi anche un gesto semplice ma molto carino di mio marito. Settimana scorsa sono tornata a casa da lavoro e ho trovato un mazzo di fiori. Alla mia domanda "con quale occasione?", mio marito mi rispose "perché mi sono reso conto che sono passati un paio di mesi dall'ultima volta che ti ho regalato dei fiori." Il gesto si è ripetuto anche questa settimana, probabilmente dovuto all'entusiasmo manifestato da me la prima volta. Comunque, pensieri simili per me significano molto e sono sicuramente delle cose bellissime da condividere.

Spero che anche per voi questo mese sia stato un mese soddisfacente e che abbiate vissuto tante belle cose.

After talking to you about this film, I would also like to share with you a simple but very nice gesture from my husband.  I came home from work last week and found a bouquet of flowers.  To my question "on what occasion?", My husband replied "because I realized that it has been a couple of months since I last gave you flowers."  The gesture was repeated this week too, probably due to the enthusiasm shown by me the first time.  However, such thoughts mean a lot to me and are certainly beautiful things to share.

I hope that this month has been a satisfying month for you too and that you have experienced many beautiful things.

Suicide Squad - Missione Suicida - o come rovinare una saga con un cast poco ispirato / Suicide Squad or how to ruin a saga with an uninspired cast

Carissimi amici e lettori,

Come avrete sicuramente capito dal titolo, ho visto al cinema il nuovo film Suicide Squad (missione suicida) e sono rimasta alquanto delusa. Ho apprezzato moltissimo il primo film di questa saga e ho anche pagato una bella somma per rivederlo qualche giorno prima di andare al cinema a vedere il sequel e anche se avessi dei grossi dubbi su certi personaggi del cast, pensavo che la presenza di Margot Robbie e Idris Elba fosse sufficiente a garantire una bella dinamica. Purtroppo mi ero sbagliata e ho capito che basta una sola frutta marcia per rovinare una cesta intera. Ho notato un fenomeno abbastanza comune alla Hollywood e cioè quello di promuovere aggressivamente certi attori inserendoli in tutti i film popolari del momento e finché si trattava di attori di talento come era successo con Sam Worthington, Shailene Woodley o Robert Pattison, questo fenomeno non mi ha disturbato minimamente ma quando invece prendono persone che provengono da un altro background, senza aver fatto un percorso di crescita o meglio detto senza aver fatto la gavetta, e gli inseriscono direttamente nelle saghe più popolari in ruoli chiave, rimango basita. La presenza che mi ha contrariato in questo caso è stata la scelta di John Cena per il ruolo di Peacemaker. L'ho trovato scialbo, inadatto, banale e a tratti anche esagerato. Nonostante fosse un film caricaturale, John Cena era completamente inadatto, non faceva ridere, era teso quando doveva divertire e impacciato o inerme quando il ruolo lo voleva dinamico. Le sue espressioni faciali erano quelle di un bambino obbligato dalla madre a partecipare per la prima volta in una recita scolastica. A differenza di altri attori che vengono dal mondo del wrestling come Dwayne Johnson o perfino Dave Bautista che sono partiti da ruoli minori, imparando il mestiere, acquisendo abilità e sviluppando il carisma necessario per recitare in certi personaggi che adesso vengono identificati solo con il loro viso, John Cena è stato troppo affrettato. 

Il pensiero che dovrò vederlo anche nell'ultimo film della serie Fast & Furious mi preoccupa parecchio e mi fa pesare molto la decisione di andare o meno a vedere il film. Ovviamente non farò alcun spoiler ma credo che la sua scelta per questa saga doveva essere ponderata meglio perché ha abbassato considerevolmente l'indice di gradimento e l'affluenza nelle sale di cinema.

As you may have guessed from the title, I saw the new movie Suicide Squad at the cinema and I was quite disappointed. I really enjoyed the first film of this saga and I also paid a nice sum to see it again a few days before going to the cinema for the sequel and even though I had big doubts about certain characters in the cast, I thought that the presence of Margot Robbie and Idris Elba was enough to guarantee a nice dynamic. Unfortunately I was wrong and I realized that just one rotten fruit is enough to ruin an entire basket. I noticed a fairly common phenomenon in Hollywood and that is to aggressively promote certain actors by inserting them in all the popular films at the time and as long as they were talented actors as had happened with Sam Worthington, Shailene Woodley or Robert Pattison, this phenomenon was not disturbing at all, but when instead they take people who come from another background, without having made a path of growth or better said without having done the apprenticeship and insert them directly in the most popular sagas in key roles, I am stunned. The presence that annoyed me in this case was the choice of John Cena for the role of Peacemaker. I found it dull, unsuitable, banal and at times even exaggerated. Despite being a cartoon movie, John Cena was completely unsuitable, he was not funny, he was tense when he had to entertain and awkward or helpless when the role wanted him dynamic. His facial expressions were those of a child forced by his mother to participate for the first time in a school play. Unlike other actors who come from the world of wrestling such as Dwayne Johnson or even Dave Bautista who started from minor roles, learning the trade, acquiring skills and developing the charisma necessary to act in certain characters who are now identified only with their face, John Cena was too hasty.

The thought that I will have to see it also in the last movie of the Fast & Furious series worries me a lot and makes me weigh a lot the decision to go or not to see it. Obviously I will not make any spoilers but I think that his choice for this saga had to be better considered because it has considerably lowered the approval rating and the turnout in cinemas.

Solo Cose Belle - giugno 2021 / Only beautiful things - June 2021

Ciao carissimi lettori, 

Stavolta sono in ritardo con il consueto post dedicato alle cose belle di questo mese, non perché non ce ne siano ma perché sono stata molto impegnata e non ho trovato il tempo. Alcune delle cose belle di cui vorrei parlarvi sono fra quelle che mi hanno rubato il tempo, anzi, è meglio dire cose a cui ho dato la precedenza.  

Come prima cosa, visto che i cinema sono aperti e ci si può anche consumare pop corn e bibite dentro, io e mio marito abbiamo deciso di impegnare ogni fine settimana che non era già riservato ad altro, ad andare al cinema. Ci è capitato anche di fare la maratona e vedere quindi più film in successione. Per noi andare al cinema è rilassante, ci permette di ricaricarci le batterie e scoprire mondi nuovi e idee nuove. Ecco a voi alcuni dei film che abbiamo visionato. Sono curiosa se gli avete visti o se intendete andare a vederli?

For this time I am late with the usual post dedicated to the beautiful things of this month, not because there are none but because I have been very busy and I have not found the time.  Some of the beautiful things I would like to tell you about are among those that have stolen my time, and indeed, it is better to say things that I have given priority to.

First of all, since the cinemas are open and you can also consume popcorn and drinks inside, my husband and I decided to commit every weekend that was not already reserved for anything else, to go to the cinema. We also did it in marathon style and therefore saw more films in succession.  For us, going to the cinema is relaxing, it allows us to recharge our batteries and discover new worlds and new ideas.  Here are some of the movies we have seen.  I'm curious if you have seen them or if you intend to go and see them?

Un'altra bella cosa che mi ha tenuta molto impegnata questo mese è la fioritura delle mie orchidee. Da quasi due mesi (in un periodo non abituale per la loro fioritura),  diverse orchidee hanno inziare a fiorire. L'orchidea poi ha bisogno di attenzione, bisogna capire cosa le manca, curarla, assicurare loro la giusta illuminazione e la giusta quantità d'acqua e quindi sono un po' impegnative, soprattutto se sono tante, come nel mio caso. Alcune avevano già aperto i boccioli anche a gennaio, febbraio o marzo, alcune lo hanno fatto dopo una pausa di qualche anno. Siccome i miei conoscenti e amici nella vita reale non conoscono la mia passione per le orchidee, ho deciso di condividere con loro foto e storie su queste meravigliose creature. Voi come lettori di questo blog siete ormai familiarizzati con questo mio hobby ma condivido lo stesso anche con voi le ultime fioriture. Queste che vedete qui, sono fiorite da un po', quindi a presto cominceranno a perdere fiori e petali e siccome ne ho altre che iniziano a rinascere e che hanno già fatto avanti i loro steli, a breve ne vedrete delle altre.

Another beautiful thing that has kept me very busy this month is the blooming of my orchids.  For almost two months (in an unusual period for their flowering), several orchids have started to bloom. Therefore the orchid needs attention, you have to feel its needs, take care of it, ensure them the right lighting and the right amount of water and thus they are a bit demanding, especially if they are several, as in my case.  Some have already opened their buds even in January, February or March, some have done so after a pause of a few years.  As my acquaintances and friends in real life do not know my passion for orchids, I decided to share photos and stories about these wonderful creatures with them on social  network  channels. You as readers of this blog are now familiar with this hobby of mine but I share nevertheless the latest blooms with you too.  These you see here have been in bloom for a while, so soon they will begin to lose flowers and petals and since I have others that are starting to be reborn and that have already pushed their stems forward, you will soon see others.

Vi ringrazio per la vostra attenzione che dedichiate a tutti i miei post e spero che vi siano piaciute le mei cose belle di questo mese.

Solo Cose Belle - edizione Maggio / Only beautiful things - month of May edition

Carissimi lettori,

è arrivato quel momento del mese in cui condivido con voi le cose belle che ho vissuto in questo mese. Non sarà un post lungo anche perché per chi mi segue sui social, facebook o instagram, avrà avuto modo di scoprire la cosa più bella che ho festeggiato questo mese. Questo mese ha avuto luogo il festival della musica internazionale Eurovision. La Romania, il mio paese di origine non ha superato la semifinale martedì 18 maggio e quindi non ha partecipato alla finale di Sabato, 22 maggio. Ho seguito intensamente la finale perché l'Italia partecipava con il mio gruppo italiano preferito, i Maneskin e con la canzone che ha vinto anche il festival di Sanremo "Zitti e buoni" e sono stata felicissima di scoprire che non ero l'unica ad apprezzare la loro musica. Per coloro che non hanno avuto modo di vedere la finale oppure leggere articoli riguardanti questo momento, ho il piacere di informarvi che dopo essere finiti al quarto posto in seguito alla votazione della giuria di specialità dei diversi paesi, l'Italia ha vinto l'Eurovision dopo la votazione del pubblico. L'Italia ha ricevuto il più alto punteggio del televoto, 318 punti,(credo sia importante specificare che un paese non può votare per i suoi concorrenti), quindi ha presentato l'artista che è piaciuto di più al pubblico votante internazionale. Questo significa che grazie alla performance del gruppo Maneskin, l'Italia avrà l'occasione di organizzare questo evento l'anno prossimo. Nel caso non abbiate avuto modo di sentire la loro canzone, vi lascio qui il link per la canzone "Zitti e buoni" versione originale, cioè non la versione senza parolacce presentata l'Eurovision.

Hello dear readers, 

The moment of the month when I share with you the beautiful things I have experienced that month has finally come. It will not be a long post also because those who follow me on social networks, facebook or instagram, have already had the opportunity to discover the most beautiful thing I celebrated this month. The Eurovision international music festival took place this month. Romania, my country of origin, did not pass the semifinal on Tuesday 18 May and therefore did not participate in the final on Saturday, 22 May. I followed the final intensely because Italy participated with my favorite Italian group, the Maneskin and with the song that also won the Sanremo festival "Zitti e buoni" and I was delighted to discover that I was not the only one to appreciate their music. For those who have not had the opportunity to see the final or read articles about this moment, I am pleased to inform you that after finishing in fourth place following the vote of the specialty jury of the different countries, Italy won the Eurovision after the public vote. Italy received the highest score from the televoting public, 318 points, (I think it is important to specify that a country cannot vote for its competitors), thefore has presented the artist liked the most by the international voting public. This means that thanks to the performance of the Maneskin group, Italy will have the opportunity to organize this event next year. In case you have not had the opportunity to hear their song, I leave you here the link for the song "Zitti e buoni" (Shut up and behave) original version, that is, not the version without profanity presented to the Eurovision.

Un'altra cosa bella di questo mese che vorrei condividere con voi è il fatto che ho potuto finalmente vedere un film al cinema. Il fine settimana scorso, ridosso della finale Eurovision, siamo anche andati al cinema a vedere un film. La scelta non era molto ampia e quindi da amanti del horror abbiamo scelto di vedere il film "Il sacro male". Il film è stato accettabile ma confesso che vedere un film senza poter sgranocchiare popcorn o bere qualcosa (per via della restrizione presente al  momento in Italia che permette consumazione di cibo e bevande solo all'aperto), non è stato lo stesso. Probabilmente ritornerò a vedere altri film anche in queste condizioni perché ho una lista lunghissima di film da vedere ma non vedo l'ora che le cose tornino alla normalità. Tutto sommato avere la possibilità di vedere un film sul grande schermo è veramente una bella cosa, tanto bella da parlarne anche con voi.

Another nice thing about this month that I would like to share with you is the fact that I was finally able to see a movie at the cinema. Last weekend, close to the Eurovision final, we also went to the cinema to see a movie. The choice was not very wide and therefore as horror lovers we chose to see the film "The Unholy". The movie was acceptable but I confess watching a movie without being able to crunch on popcorn or have a drink (due to the restriction present at the moment in Italy which allows the consumption of food and drinks only outdoors) didn't felt the same. I will probably return to see other movies even in these conditions because I have a very long list of films to see but I can't wait for things to return to normal. All in all, having the chance to see a movie on the big screen is really a good thing, that good as to talk about it with you.

Solo Cose Belle - febbraio / Only Beautiful Things - February

Anche questo mese torno da voi per un altro appuntamento di Solo Cose Belle e anche se questo mese il post arriva un po' tardi, è solo perché aspettavo di poter condividere con voi un evento molto importante per me, un evento che tra l'altro vi avevo menzionato il mese scorso. 

La prima cosa bella di cui vorrei parlarvi è la Festa degli Innamorati il San Valentino, che io e mio marito abbiamo festeggiato alla grande. Se mi state seguendo su Instagram, sicuramente avete già visto le foto e quindi siete già al corrente di come lo abbiamo festeggiato. Per coloro che non mi stanno ancora seguendo, mi trovate come @womantoday e oltre alle foto di San Valentino che ho nominato prima, condivido tante altre cose di cui non sempre riesco a parlare sul blog. Comunque ci tenevo a parlare anche durante questo post perché ci eravamo impegnato veramente tanto e volevo condividerlo anche con i lettori del mio blog di una delle cose più belle che mi sono successe questo mese. Abbiamo ordinato una mega torta alla frutta molto buona che sembrava non finire più, ci siamo regalati cose carine che volevamo tanto, mio marito inoltre mi ha regalato anche una magnifica orchidea che potete ammirare qui e abbiamo pranzato in un ristorante di sushi. È stata una giornata bellissima!

This month I also come back to you for another appointment of Only Beautiful Things and even if this month the post comes a little late, it is only because I was waiting to be able to share with you a very important event for me, an event that among other things I mentioned you last month.

The first beautiful thing I would like to tell you about is the Lovers' Day on Valentine's Day, which my husband and I celebrated in a big way. If you are following me on Instagram, surely you have already seen the photos and therefore you are already aware of how we celebrated it. For those who are not following me yet, you can find me as @womantoday and in addition to the Valentine's Day photos I mentioned earlier, I share many other things that I don't always manage to talk about on the blog. However, I also wanted to talk about it during this post too because we had worked so hard and I also wanted to share with the readers of my blog about one of the best things that happened to me this month. We ordered a very good mega fruit cake that seemed to never end, we gave ourselves nice things we wanted so much, my husband also gave me a magnificent orchid that you can admire here and we had lunch in a sushi restaurant. It was such a beautiful day!

ITA: Sempre questo mese ma il giorno 22, c'era anche il compleanno di mio marito. Non vi svelo quanti anni ha compiuto perché lo si può benissimo capire dalla foto ;) Io e mia suocera abbiamo complottato insieme e gli abbiamo preparato una sorpresa. Era una giornata lavorativa ma credo che ce la siamo cavate alla grande. Oltre ai regali fatti considerando i desideri del festeggiato (che tra l'altro non compaiono neanche tutti perché alcuni li ha aperti subito), io ho ordinato del sushi per cena (avete già capito, siamo dei grandi fan di questa specialità giapponese) mentre mia suocera ha ordinato una torta. Il festeggiato ha apprezzato molto il nostro pensiero e ci siamo divertiti tanto davanti ad un bicchiere di vino buono. 

ENG: Also this month but on the 22nd, there was also my husband's birthday. I won't tell you how old he was because you can easily understand it from the photo;) My mother-in-law and I, plotted together and prepared a surprise for him. It was a working day but I belevieve we did great anyways. In addition to the gifts made considering the wishes of the birthday boy (which by the way do not even appear all because he opened some right away), I ordered sushi for dinner (you already understood, we are big fans of this Japanese specialty) while my mother-in-law ordered a cake. The birthday boy really appreciated our thoughts and we had a lot of fun over a glass of good wine.

ITA: Un'altra cosa bella (anche se è più corretto chiamarla carina perché bella forse è un po' troppo) è stato il film Wonder Woman 84 che abbiamo noleggiato su Sky nel fine settimana per la festa degli innamorati. A me piace molto Gal Gadot e anche Chris Pine non è male e avevo trovato interessante il primo film Wonder Woman e quindi quando Sky, come tutte le altre piattaforme televisive d'altronde, ci ha offerto la possibilità di noleggiarlo per 14 euro e passa, non abbiamo esitato a farlo. Non è un grande film, infatti io non consiglio alla gente di spendere questa somma per vederlo, dico soltanto che siccome avevamo una nostalgia pazza di andare al cinema e questo film lo avevo atteso impazientemente, abbiamo deciso di vederlo. 

ENG: Another beautiful thing (even if it is more correct to call it nice because beautiful it is maybe a bit too much) was the movie Wonder Woman 84 that we rented on Sky over the weekend for the party of lovers. I really like Gal Gadot and Chris Pine isn't bad either and I found the first Wonder Woman movie interesting and so when Sky, like all other television platforms, offered us the opportunity to rent it for 14 euros and something, we did not hesitate to do so. It's not a great movie, in fact I don't advise people to spend this amount to see it, I'm just saying that since we were so homesick for going to the cinema and I had been waiting impatiently for this film, we decided to see it.

ITA: Ancora un'altra cosa bella di cui vorrei parlarvi, che in realtà sono due, sono i pensierini che due delle mie colleghe di lavoro mi hanno regalato. Non vi svelo per quale motivo mi hanno fatto questi due pensierini ma voglio condividere con voi la gioia e la soddisfazione che sento tutte le volte che una persona ha questi gesti inattesi. Credo che ormai mi conoscono abbastanza per sapere che sono una patita della cosmesi, dei prodotti di bellezza e per per la cura della persona e per questa ragione mi hanno regalato queste deliziose mini taglie Bulgari e Yves Rocher che potete ammirare qui sotto. 

ENG: Yet another beautiful thing that I would like to tell you about, which are actually two, are the little thoughts that two of my work colleagues have given me. I won't tell you why they gave me these two little thoughts but I want to share with you the joy and satisfaction that I feel every time a person has these unexpected gestures. I think they know me enough by now to know that I am a fan of cosmetics, beauty products and personal care products and for this reason they gave me these delicious Bulgari and Yves Rocher mini sizes that you can see below.

ITA: L'ultima cosa bella di cui volevo parlarvi e che mi ha fatto tardare la pubblicazione di questo post, è stata la vaccinazione anti Covid. Come vi avevo già annunciato il mese scorso, io non vedevo l'ora di eseguire questa vaccinazione. Il 5 febbraio mi è stata somministrata la prima dosi del vaccino Pfizer BionTech Cominarty senza alcun effetto collaterale tranne per un leggero dolore al braccio il giorno dopo. La seconda somministrazione è stata prenotata per il 26 febbraio. Ho avuto la fortuna di prenotare entrambe le somministrazioni per il venerdì, cosi nel caso ci fosse stato qualche reazione, almeno ero a casa tranquilla. Se la prima somministrazione ho avuto la fortuna di farla dopo l'orario di lavoro, con zero tempi di attesa, perché infatti avevano qualche dose scongelata in più e hanno chiesto volontari (in pratica avevo anticipato la data) per la seconda somministrazione non è stato cosi. Sono stata prenotata al mattino e nello stesso posto vaccinavano anche gli over 80, i malati cronici e diverse altre categorie. File tremende, pochi posti per sedersi e nessun parente che accompagnava quei anziani, disposto ad alzarsi dalla sedia e far sedere una donna con la stampella che era in piedi ormai da più di un'ora... Ci sono state un po' di burrascosità ma preferisco non parlarne perché è un post dedicato alle cose belle e alla fine dopo quasi due ore di attesa sono riuscita a fare anche la seconda somministrazione. Consiglio a tutti coloro che debbano ancora vaccinarsi di prendersi un giorno di ferie o permesso perché altrimenti rischiate di non arrivare in tempo a lavorare anche se cercate di organizzarvi al meglio. Io, non avrei mai immaginato un tempo di attesa cosi lungo e persone (alcune di loro, non intendo in alcun modo generalizzare) tanto scortesi. Poi è giusto per carità che ognuno pensi alla sua situazione e al suo problema ma senza cooperazione, i ritardi lamentati per certi servizi andranno a propagarsi anche sugli altri servizi, anche quelli importanti.  Volevo aggiungere solo che non ho avuto effetti collaterali significativi tranne per un certo peggioramento della sintomatologia già in atto relativa alle mie vecchie patologie, che è comunque regredito dopo un giorno. Tutto sommato anche la seconda somministrazione è andata abbastanza bene e sono molto contenta di aver avuto la possibilità di fare il vaccino. Mi sarebbe toccato comunque farlo in questo periodo, insieme a tutti gli altri pazienti a rischio ma sono grata di aver avuto l'occasione di farla con qualche settimana di anticipo e ringrazio l'azienda sanitaria dove lavoro per questo motivo.  

ENG: The last nice thing I wanted to talk to you about and that made me delay the publication of this post, was the anti Covid vaccination. As I announced last month, I was looking forward to this vaccination. On February 5th I was given the first dose of the Pfizer BionTech Cominarty vaccine with no side effects except for a slight pain in my arm the next day. The second administration was booked for February 26th. I was lucky enough to book both doses for Friday, so in case there was any reaction, at least I was at home undisturbed. If I was lucky enough to have the first administration after working hours, with zero waiting times, because in fact they had a few more thawed doses and asked for volunteers (in practice I anticipated the date) for the second administration it was not so. I was booked in the morning and in the same place they also vaccinated the over 80, the chronically ill and several other categories. Tremendous queues, few places to sit and no relatives accompanying those elderly, willing to get up from the chair and liberate the seat for a woman with a crutch who had been up for more than an hour now ... There was a bit of storminess but I prefer not to talk about it because it is a post dedicated to beautiful things and in the end after almost two hours of waiting I managed to do the second administration as well. I advise all those who still have to get vaccinated to take a day off or leave because otherwise you risk not arriving in time to work even if you try to organize yourself as best as possible. I, never imagined such a long waiting time and people (some of them, I don't mean to generalize in any way) so rude. Then it is right for God sake that everyone thinks about his situation and his problem but without cooperation, the delays complained of for certain services will also spread to other services, also important. I just wanted to add that I did not have significant side effects, after the second administration of vaccine I suffered only some worsening of the symptoms already in progress relating to my old pathologies, which regressed after a day. For the rest, all went well and I am very happy that I had the opportunity to do it. In any case, I would have had to do it in this period, together with all the other patients at risk but I am grateful I had the opportunity to do it a few weeks in advance and I thank the health company where I work for this reason.

La Tregua - recensione libro e confronto con il film / The Truce - book review and comparison with the movie

Ciao carissimi lettori,

Oggi vorrei recensire nello stesso post un libro e il film che è stato realizzato partendo da questo libro. Confesso di aver fatto alcune letture abbastanza deludenti nei mesi prima di leggere questo romanzo ed ecco perché non vedevo l’ora che arrivasse un altro libro di Primo Levi. Forse vi ricorderete il libro “Se questo è un uomo” che ho recensito precedentemente e il fatto che ho apprezzato molto la narrazione e l’ideologia che ha ispirato questa grande opera letteraria e quindi alla scoperta che avevano messo in programmazione su Sky il film La tregua diretto da Francesco Rosi ho deciso senza esitazioni di leggere il libro che ha ispirato questo film e di guardare successivamente il film per poter fare un confronto. Ogni volta che leggevo un libro e poi guardavo il film restavo delusa e anche se il film aveva attori famosi e registi molto bravi per qualche motivo la mia sensazione era che il film non aveva colto l’anima di quel libro. Ma prima di emettere subito sentenze, vorrei cominciare a recensire il libro. La tregua è un libro – memoria in cui l’autore Primo Levi, racconta il lungo viaggio che intraprese per ritornare in Italia dopo che i tedeschi abbandonarono il campo di concentramento Auschwitz a gennaio 1945. Questo viaggio lo porta nei paesi dell’Europa orientale e centrale fino ad arrivare a Torino il 19 ottobre 1945. Dopo l’abbandono del campo da parte dei soldati tedeschi, i prigionieri rimasti in vita sono stati abbandonati alla loro sorte, alle malattie, fame e sporcizia fino all’arrivo dei soldati russi. I soldati russi trasferirono gradualmente i prigionieri in diversi campi e caserme fino alla partenza per i loro rispettivi paesi. Il romanzo inizia descrivendo la vita nel lager dopo che i soldati tedeschi hanno abbandonato il campo e in un certo modo inizia da dove è finito il libro “Se questo è un uomo” e certi personaggi che abbiamo conosciuto in questo libro, come Charles e Arthur, li ritroviamo anche nel romanzo “La tregua”. Ben presto scopriremo molti altri personaggi, tutti descritti accuratamente sia come aspetto, sia come personalità e convinzioni. Ho sempre trovato molto interessante e affascinante il modo in cui l’autore percepisce il carattere di queste persone senza fare il moralista, Henek, un florido ragazzo ungherese di quindici anni, sano, atletico, affettuoso e servizievole con certe persone e sanguinario con altre, Hurbinek, il bambino nato nel lager, incapace di parlare e camminare, Mordo Nahum, il greco poliglotta, di statura piuttosto alta, rosso di pelle e di pelo, con grossi occhi scialbi ed acquosi, un gran naso ricurvo che gli conferiva un aspetto rapace ed impedito, un uomo con forti convinzioni che riteneva il furto, la truffa e il contrabbando come lavoro lecito e che più tardi incontreremo come magnaccia. Scopriamo anche personaggi come Marja Fjodorovna, un infermiera militare sulla quarantina, nata nel cuore della Siberia, donna brusca, arruffona, che ballava energicamente, Galina, una ragazza ucraina, di diciott’anni, bruna, allegra, graziosa cantante che si vestiva con una certa eleganza, e parlava a Primo in una lingua che non era né di lei né di lui ma era la lingua dell’oppressore, Ferrari, il ladro milanese, magro giallo, una vera calamita per i pidocchi, quasi calvo che leggeva avidamente libri che non comprendeva essendo praticamente analfabeta, Cesare, il ciarlatano romano con un vocabolario colorito e sempre in vena di fare soldi e trovare amore. Non potrei non nominare l’abile e astuto dottor Gottlieb che parlava perfettamente l’italiano, il tedesco, il polacco, l’ungherese e il russo e che anche se avesse un braccio anchilosato era riuscito a sopravvivere al lager insieme a suo fratello e un misterioso cognato e grazie al quale Primo guarisce dalla pleurite, né il Moro, un vecchio muratore settantenne dall’ossatura da dinosauro che conservava e sembrava che si nutrisse di una collera gigantesca contro tutto il mondo e che viveva solo per sua figlia disabile oppure Leonardo, un medico italiano ebreo che aveva partecipato anche la prima guerra mondiale, come infermiere a quei tempi e che anche se vivo grazie al rancore per i tedeschi, aiuta il prossimo ed insieme al dottor Gottlieb rimette in salute l’autore di questo libro. I personaggi sono tanti e Primo Levi li descrive con oggettività, quasi come fosse uno spettatore esterno. Questi personaggi lo accompagnano nel campo di sosta di Katowice, nel tragitto per arrivare nella Russia Bianca, a combattere le carenze a Zmerinka, a conoscere la gente del posto e la loro lingua viaggiando a piedi o con il treno per poi vivere nel “ozio” a Staryje Doroghi. Primo Levi parla di questa fase come di una vacanza perché Staryje Doroghi non chiedeva niente da loro e nutriva, offriva pace e abbondanza. In questo posto i giorni passavano in una “interminabile indolenza , sonnolenta, benefica come una lunga vacanza, rotta solo a intervalli dal pensiero doloroso della casa lontana”. La narrazione si sviluppa per almeno tre quarti del libro in questi campi di sosta e questi peregrinaggi in Polonia, Ucraina e Russia in cui l’autore osserva la gente, cerca di capire e apprendere il loro linguaggio, fa amicizie e metabolizza la sofferenza e il ricordo del lager. Una volta partiti da Staryje Doroghi su un altro treno ma in condizioni comunque migliori di quelli all’arrivo, i nostri personaggi rifanno la strada fino a Zmerinka, lasciano l’Ucraina per entrare in Romania a Iasi scendendo fino a Braila, risalendo poi a Brasov e percorrendo la Transilvania lasciano la Romania a Curtici continuando per l’Ungheria a Budapest e Szob, con una piccola deviazione per la Cecoslovacchia e attraversando l’Austria arrivano a Monaco di Baviera in Germania. Se fino ad adesso la narrazione è stata meno ricca di riflessioni rispetto al suo primo libro “Se questo è un uomo”, la vista e l’incontro in circostanze diverse di coloro che sono stati i loro oppressori risveglia il dolore e fa sorgere delle domande legittime riguardandola colpa di ogni cittadino tedesco. Da questo punto percorrendo la Svizzera, il treno entra in Italia e Primo ritorna finalmente a casa dove ritrova sua madre e sua sorella. Insieme a lui c’è Leonardo, insieme compagni di treno un’altra volta e amici scampati al massacro.

Vorrei adesso fare un breve confronto con il film La Tregua (The Truce) con John Turturo nei panni di Primo Levi, Massimo Ghini nel ruolo di Cesare, Rade Šerbedžija nei panni del Greco e Claudio Bisio nel ruolo di Ferrari. Nel film alcuni personaggi vengono cambiati anche in base a stereotipi, come Galina che nel libro viene descritta come una ragazza bruna mentre nel film vediamo una ragazza con lunghi capelli biondi, il personaggio Leonardo nel film viene chiamato Daniele, certe azioni compiute da certi personaggi vengono attribuite nel film ad altri personaggi come tante inziative di Cesare nel film vengono compiute da Ferrari oppure da Primo stesso (l’interpretazione di una gallina), mentre certi personaggi importanti nel libro, vengono appena accennati nel film come Marja Feodorovna, il dottor Gottlieb oppure il Moro. Certi personaggi del libro, nel film non compaiono neanche come Henek e Hurbinek, la congregazione “rumena” (soldati e funzionari italiani distaccati in Romania che avevano sposato donne rumene e avevano messo su famiglia in Romania) oppure la comunità ebrea a Iasi che accolgono Primo e il suo amico con affetto e premura. Certi altri momenti invece vengono esaltati e godono di più attenzione nel film rispetto al libro come l’arrivo alla stazione a Monaco di Baviera e l’incontro con dei cittadini tedeschi. La mancanza più grossa nel film, secondo me è stata la sostituzione della poesia. Il libro La Tregua, inizia con la poesia con lo stesso nome, scritta al 11 gennaio 1946 e certi versi vengono ripresi in alcuni momenti salienti mentre nel film questa poesia non compare da nessuna parte. Il film La Tregua (The Truce) finisce invece con Primo Levi che recita la poesia “Voi che vivete sicuri”, scritta nello stesso periodo ma che fa da introduzione al libro “Se questo è un uomo”. Complessivamente anche se ho gradito il film, ho apprezzato molto di più il libro per via della chiarezza con cui vengono descritti i personaggi, i luoghi e per il modo in cui lo scrittore condivide con i lettori le sue impressioni, i suoi pensieri e i suoi sentimenti. Il film non è riuscito a cogliere e trasporre le sensazioni che il libro trasmette ai suoi lettori e ridimensionando personaggi e fatti ha cambiato in un certo modo il senso e lo scopo di questo libro.

Tutto sommato ho apprezzato molto questo romanzo e anche per questo libro come per “Se questo è un uomo” mi sono servita della matita per evidenziare le frasi chiave, le introspezioni notevoli e i momenti decisivi. Da questo libro traspare il percorso necessario alla riabilitazione psicologica di una persona che ha vissuto un trauma e quanto questo percorso possa essere lento e complesso per arrivare a rendere libero il soggetto e aiutarlo a comprendere i fatti e il rapporto che questi eventi hanno con i suoi sentimenti. Consiglio questo libro a coloro che amano le letture profonde, le descrizioni ricche di dettagli e i personaggi intriganti. Consiglio questo libro a tutti coloro che non hanno paura di pensare mentre leggono e che amano porsi delle domande.

Today I would like to review in the same post a book and the film that was made from this book. I confess that I have done some fairly disappointing readings in the months prior this novel and that's why I was looking forward to another book by Primo Levi. You may remember the book "If this is a man" that I reviewed previously and the fact that I really enjoyed the narrative and ideology that inspired this great literary work and therefore the discovery that the movie The Truce, directed by Francesco Rosi had been programmed on Sky,  I decided without hesitation to read the book that inspired this movie and to watch the film later in order to make a comparison. Every time I read a book and then watched the film I get disappointed and although the movie had famous actors and very good directors for some reason my feeling was that the film had not caught the soul of that book. But before I make judgments right away, I'd like to start reviewing the book. The truce is a memorial book in which the author, Primo Levi, recounts the long journey he took to return to Italy after the Germans left the Auschwitz concentration camp in January 1945. This journey takes him to Eastern and Central European countries until arriving in Turin on October 19, 1945. After the German soldiers left the camp, the prisoners who remained alive were abandoned to their fate, disease, hunger and dirt until the arrival of the Russian soldiers. Russian soldiers gradually moved the prisoners to different camps and barracks until they left for their respective countries. The novel begins by describing life in the concentration camp after German soldiers have left the camp and in a certain way begins where the book "If this is a man" ended and certain characters we have encountered in this book, such as Charles and Arthur, we also find them in the novel "The Truce". Soon we will discover many other characters, all accurately described both in appearance and in personality and beliefs. I have always found the way in which the author perceives the character of these people without being a moralist, very interesting and fascinating, Henek, a thriving fifteen year old Hungarian boy, healthy, athletic, affectionate and helpful with certain persons and bloodthirsty with others, Hurbinek, the child born in the concentration camp, unable to speak and walk, Mordo Nahum, the Greek polyglot, of rather tall stature, red in skin and hair, with large pale and watery eyes, a large curved nose that gave him a rapacious and impeded appearance, a man with strong convictions who believed theft, fraud and smuggling to be lawful work and whom we will later meet as pimp. We also discover characters such as Marja Fjodorovna, a military nurse in her forties, born in the heart of Siberia, a brusque, ruffled woman, who danced energetically, Galina, a Ukrainian girl, eighteen years old, brunette, cheerful, graceful singer who dressed with a certain elegance, and who spoke to Primo in a language that was neither hers nor his but it was the language of the oppressor, Ferrari, the Milanese thief, skinny yellow, a real magnet for lice, almost bald who read avidly books although being practically illiterate, Cesare, the Roman charlatan with a colorful vocabulary and always in the mood to make money and find love. I could not fail to mention the skilful and cunning Dr. Gottlieb who spoke perfectly Italian, German, Polish, Hungarian and Russian and that even if he had a ankylosed arm he managed to survive the concentration camp with his brother and a mysterious brother-in-law and thanks to whom Primo heals from pleurisy, neither Moro, an old seventy-year-old bricklayer with a dinosaur bone structure that kept and seemed to feed on a gigantic rage against the whole world and who lived only for his disabled daughter or Leonardo, an Italian Jewish doctor who had also participated in the First World War, as a nurse at that time and who even if still alive thanks to the grudge against the Germans, helps his neighbor and together with Dr. Gottlieb restores the author of this book to health. The characters are many and Primo Levi describes them objectively, almost as if he were an external spectator. These characters accompany him to the Katowice rest camp, on the way to get to White Russia, to fight the shortages in Zmerinka, to meet the locals and their language by traveling on foot or by train and then living in the "idleness" at Staryje Doroghi. Primo Levi speaks of this phase as a vacation time because Staryje Doroghi asked nothing from them and fed, offered peace and abundance to them. In this place the days passed in an "endless indolence, sleepy, beneficial as a long vacation, shattered only at instants by the painful thought of the distant home". The narrative is developed for at least three quarters of the book in these camps and these pilgrimages to Poland, Ukraine and Russia in which the author observes people, tries to understand and learn their language, makes friends and metabolizes the sufferings and the remembrance of the lager. Once they left Staryje Doroghi on another train but in better conditions than those on arrival, our characters make the road to Zmerinka, leave Ukraine to enter Romania at Iasi Iasi decending to Braila, then going up to Brasov and traveling through Transylvania they leave Romania at Curtici continuing through Hungary to Budapest and Szob, with a small detour to Czechoslovakia and crossing Austria to Munich in Germany. If until now the narrative has been less rich in reflections than in his first book "If this is a man", the sight and encounter in different circumstances of those who have been their oppressors awakens the pain and raises legitimate questions regarding the fault of every German citizen. From this point, traveling through Switzerland, the train enters Italy and Primo finally returns home where he finds his mother and sister. Together with him there is Leonardo, train companions once again and friends who escaped the massacre.

I would now like to make a brief comparison with the film The Truce with John Turturo as Primo Levi, Massimo Ghini as Cesare, Rade Šerbedžija as the Greek and Claudio Bisio as Ferrari. In the film some characters are also changed based on stereotypes, such as Galina who in the book is described as a brunette girl while in the film we see a girl with long blonde hair, the character Leonardo in the film is called Daniele, certain actions performed by certain characters are attributed in the film to other characters as many of Cesare's initiatives in the film are carried out by Ferrari or Primo himself (the interpretation of a hen), while certain important characters in the book are barely mentioned in the film such as Marja Feodorovna, Dr. Gottlieb or the Moor. Certain characters from the book do not even appear in the movie as Henek and Hurbinek, the "Romanian" congregation (Italian soldiers and officials detached to Romania who had married Romanian women and raised a family in Romania) or the Jewish community in Iasi who welcome Primo and his friend with affection and concern. Certain other moments are instead enhanced and receive more consideration in the film than in the book such as the arrival at the station in Munich and the encounter of German citizens. The biggest flaw in the movie, in my opinion, was the replacement of poem. The book The Truce, begins with the poem of the same name, written on January 11th, 1946 and certain verses are taken up in some salient moments while in the film this poem does not appear anywhere. The film The Truce ends instead with Primo Levi who recites the poem "You who live safe", written in the same period but which serves as an introduction to the book "If this is a man". Overall though I liked the film, I appreciated the book much more because of the clarity with which characters and places are described, and the way the writer shares with the readers his impressions, thoughts and feelings. The film failed to capture and transpose the sensations that the book conveys to its readers and by resizing characters and facts has, in a certain way, changed the sense and purpose of this book.

All in all I really enjoyed this novel and also for this book as for "If this is a man" I used a pencil to highlight the key phrases, the remarkable introspections and the decisive moments. From this book transpires the path necessary for the psychological rehabilitation of a person who has experienced a trauma and how slow and complex this path can be in order to free the subject and help him understand the facts and the relationship that these events have with his feelings. I recommend this book to those who love deep readings, detailed descriptions and intriguing characters. I recommend this book to all those who are not afraid to think while reading and who like making questions to themselves.
