Il Grido della Rosa di Alice Basso - recensione / The Shout of the Rose by Alice Basso - book review

 

Ciao carissimi lettori,

Oggi sono qui per recensire un altro romanzo della scrittrice italiana Alice Basso, un altro libro della serie di romanzi che hanno come personaggio principale la dattilografa Anita Bo. Anche questo libro è un regalo della stessa carissima amica e come avevo deciso già prima di iniziare a leggere Il morso della vipera, il primo libro della serie, ho letto Il grido della rosa, il secondo libro della serie subito dopo aver finito di leggere il primo. Come potete già immaginare, i personaggi sono più o meno gli stessi ad eccezione di alcuni nuovi personaggi che vengono dalla casa di tolleranza e dalla clinica per le mamme singole. Un’altra novità consiste nel personaggio cattivo perché stavolta abbiamo non uno ma ben 2 cattivi che fanno la parte diciamo effettiva ed inoltre abbiamo anche una mente criminale, un master mind che dirige le attività criminali. Quindi adesso abbiamo non solo una mente criminale, ma anche 2 cattivi e che fanno la parte esecutoria, e, inoltre le novità di questo romanzo consistono anche nei personaggi positivi che come vi stavo dicendo prima, provengono da ambiti molto diversi e inoltre a questi personaggi abbiamo anche dei personaggi che già conosciamo ma che con questo romanzo diventano molto più importanti perché acquisiscono delle nuove responsabilità e quando parlo di questi personaggi mi riferisco a Clara, la migliore amica del nostro personaggio principale femminile, Anita Bo e a Julian che è il migliore amico del nostro personaggio principale maschile, Sebastiano. Oltre a loro 2 abbiamo un altro personaggio che diventa molto importante in questo romanzo, nella persona dell'insegnante di dattilografia di Anita Bo e Claire, Candida, che sin dall'inizio è stata la loro mentore e che adesso diventa anche parte attiva delle loro investigazioni. 

Finché sono ancora alla parte che riguarda i personaggi, vorrei condividere con voi un vero spunto di riflessione che Alice Basso ha inserito nel romanzo attraverso Sebastiano Satta Ascona. Come ben sapete i libri che più preferisco sono i libri che richiedono che io gli legga con la matita in mano perciò quando mi sono imbattuta nella frase: "se ci sai fare con le donne, di donne ne hai una sola: perché te la sai scegliere giusta e poi perché te la sai tenere per tutta la vita", capirete che non potevo non sottolinearla per rileggerla in seguito. Inizialmente ho pensato fosse la frase che una donna vorrebbe sentire da un uomo ma poi nella postfazione ho scoperto che la scrittrice realmente sentì questa frase uscire dalla bocca di un uomo e per quanto io possa pensare che sarebbe una frase che usata con astuzia da un uomo per impressionare una donna, non potrei ignorare l'aspetto meritocratico, cioè come fare per essere quella donna giusta e al contempo restare cosi per tutta la vita. Frasi simili m'inspirano a volerle analizzare da diversi punti di vista e siccome nei miei post amo condividere anche le mie impressioni, vorrei davvero sapere cosa ne pensate voi al riguardo. 

Arrivati a questo punto, vorrei concedermi una piccola divagazione per fare delle precisazioni che riguardano il titolo di questo romanzo. L'emblema della rosa riguarda le case di tolleranza e le donne che ci lavorano in questi posti e aggiungendo l'elemento del grido, l'autrice annuncia subito gli eventi macabri o comunque molto spiacevoli che avevano luogo in questi posti. Per capire meglio questo concetto vi invito a leggere anche la postfazione di questo romanzo che considero altrettanto importante quanto il romanzo vero e proprio. 

Confermo le mie considerazioni per quanto riguarda il lavoro di Alice Basso in quanto anche in questo romanzo possiamo osservare un grande lavoro di documentazione per quanto riguarda gli eventi, gli scrittori e le pubblicazioni dell'epoca. La narrazione è sempre fluida e scorrevole, condita con piccoli elementi di suspense che rendono questo romanzo non solo un buon romanzo rosa, ma anche un buon giallo. In conclusione, consiglio questo romanzo come un buon modo per approfondire le nozioni di storia e letteratura ed inoltre consiglio anche la scrittrice Alice Basso come una valida scrittrice contemporanea. Ho letto 2 dei suoi romanzi, ho comprato anche il 3º e penso di comprare il resto dei romanzi della serie che vede come personaggi principali Annita Bo e Sebastiano Satta Ascona perciò mi sento fiduciosa a consigliare i suoi libri. Detto questo, concludo la mia recensione e vi aspetto alla prossima recensione letteraria oppure al prossimo post.

Today I am here to review another novel by the Italian writer Alice Basso, another book from the series of novels that have typist Anita Bo as the main character. This book is also a gift from the same dear friend and as I had already decided before starting to read The viper kiss, the first book in the series, I read The shout of the rose, the second book in the series immediately after finishing reading the first. As you can already imagine, the characters are more or less the same with the exception of some new characters who come from the brothel and the clinic for single mothers. Another novelty is the bad guy because this time we have not one but 2 bad guys who play the effective part and we also have a criminal mind, a master mind who directs the criminal activities. So now we have not only a criminal mind, but also 2 bad guys who are the executing part, and, in addition, the novelties of this novel also consist of positive characters that as I was telling you before, come from very different backgrounds and in addition to these characters we also have characters that we already know but that with this novel become much more important because they acquire new responsibilities and when I speak of these characters I am referring to Clara, the best friend of our main female character, Anita Bo and Julian who is the best friend of our main male character, Sebastiano. In addition to these 2 we have another character who becomes very important in this novel, in the person of Anita Bo and Claire's typing teacher, Candida, who has been their mentor since the beginning and who now also becomes an active part of their investigations. 

While I'm still at the part that concerns the characters, I would like to share with you some real food for thought that Alice Basso inserted into the novel through Sebastiano Satta Ascona. As you well know, the books I prefer most are the books that require me to read them with a pencil in my hand, so when I came across the phrase: "if you know how to deal with women, you only have one woman: because you know choose the right one and then because you know how to keep it for life", you will understand that I couldn't help but underline it to reread it later. Initially I thought it was the phrase that a woman would like to hear from a man but then in the afterword I discovered that the writer actually heard this phrase coming from the mouth of a man and as much as I might think it would be a phrase that would be used cunningly by a man to impress a woman, I couldn't ignore the meritocratic aspect, that is, how to be that right woman and at the same time remain that way for life. Similar sentences inspire me to want to analyze them from different points of view and since I also love to share my impressions in my posts, I would really like to know what you think about it.

Having reached this point, I would like to allow myself a small digression to make some clarifications regarding the title of this novel. The emblem of the rose concerns the brothels and the women who worked in these places and by adding the element of the cry, the author immediately announces the macabre or at least very unpleasant events that took place in these places. To better understand this concept I invite you to also read the afterword of this novel which I consider equally important as the actual novel. 

I confirm my considerations regarding Alice Basso's work as also in this novel we can observe a great documentation work regarding the events, writers and publications of the time. The narrative is always fluid and flowing, peppered with small elements of suspense that make this novel not only a good romance novel, but also a good mystery one. In conclusion, I recommend this novel as a good way to delve into the notions of history and literature and I also recommend the writer Alice Basso as a valid contemporary writer. I have read 2 of her novels, I also bought the 3rd and I plan to buy the rest of the novels in the series which has Annita Bo and Sebastiano Satta Ascona as the main characters so I feel confident in recommending her books. Having said this, I conclude my review and I look forward to seeing you at the next literary review or the next post.

Il Morso della Vipera di Alice Basso - recensione / The Bite of the Viper by Alice Basso - book review

 

Ciao carissimi amici,

Oggi recensirò un altro libro, un libro che mi ha sorpreso piacevolmente. Il titolo del libro è Il morso della vipera della scrittrice italiana, Alice Basso. Prima di tutto, vi devo avvisare che questo romanzo non è il solito libro che io compro e leggo, ed infatti non l’ho acquistato io ma mi è stato regalato da una mia carissima amica. La scrittrice non ha vinto il premio Nobel ma è ancora molto giovane e talentuosa e chi sa cosa farà in futuro. Inizio descrivendo la copertina, che in realtà è stata la cosa che mi ha più trattenuto dal leggere il libro perché è la tipica copertina di un romanzo rosa. Appena iniziato a leggere il libro, la trama, ma soprattutto il contesto nel quale la scrittrice ha inserito la sua storia, hanno catturato la mia attenzione. Il periodo storico nel quale gli eventi di questo romanzo si svolgono è il periodo interbellico, di preciso, il 1935. In quel periodo, come ben sappiate, in Italia governava Mussolini ed era appena iniziata la sua offensiva in Africa. I personaggi principali sono Anita Bo, una giovane ragazza che per sfuggire temporaneamente al matrimonio con il ragazzo dei suoi sogni, accetta di lavorare come dattilografa presso una rivista in voga a quell’epoca e Sebastiano Satta Ascona, scrittore, traduttore e redattore presso la rivista dove Anita viene assunta. Anita, dalla descrizione dell’autrice, nonché da tutti i suoi conoscenti, è una ragazza molto bella e quello che le manca come intelligenza e cultura generale, lei lo compensa con una spiccata furbizia e ciò che decenni più tardi verrà chiamato intelligenza personale. Sebastiano invece, come tutti i personaggi maschili dei romanzi rosa scritti da autori donna, è un uomo perfetto, bello fisicamente, intelligente, carismatico, talentuoso, affascinante, coraggioso, insomma, il pacchetto completo. I fidanzanti dei nostri personaggi principali sono creati seguendo lo stesso disegno in quanto bellezza, avvenenza, ricchezza e posizione sociale ma quello che abbonda dal punto di vista delle apparenze, manca a livello intellettivo, sia per Corrado che per Maria Vittoria, chiamata Mavi.

La scrittrice è stata più generosa con Clara, l’amica di Anita e Candida, la loro maestra di dattilografia. Nella descrizione di questo gruppo di donne e amiche, l’autrice ha tirato fuori il suo arsenale migliore, se mi è concesso usare questa metafora nel contesto di un romanzo che si sta preparando alla guerra. Scopriamo in loro le figure che comprendono la situazione sociale della donna in quel contesto politico e lo combattono nel loro areale lottando per la loro indipendenza finanziaria e personale. Siccome a quell’epoca il ruolo della donna in società era quello di moglie e madre, le legge consentendo di lavorare solo alle donne nubili, trovare in quel contesto delle donne che fanno una priorità della loro indipendenza economica e morale non dev’essere stato facile da realizzare. Infatti a quell’epoca, tanti lavori e tante professioni non potevano essere esercitate dalle donne perciò per rendere credibile la storia del romanzo, Alessia Basso ha fatto un grande lavoro di documentazione, trovando nei registri dell’epoca un insegnante di dattilografia con lo stesso nome. Stesso lavoro di documentazione anche per i membri del partito ed i suoi uffici e rappresentanti, per il materiale che i nostri personaggi principali usano nella loro rivista e persino per la rivista stessa, in quanto Saturnalia è stata realmente una rivista italiana che in quell’epoca traduceva romanzi e storie delle riviste in voca negli Stati Uniti. Ad onor del vero, ho parlato del lato romanzato della nostra storia, lasciando per ultimo il vero intento e format di questo libro in quanto Il morso della vipera è un giallo, un romanzo poliziesco nel quale la parte dei detective viene assolta dal nostro scrittore e la sua dattilografa. Sul modello delle storie con i detective che traducono per Saturnalia, i due personaggi fiutano il marcio, individuano il colpevole e lo denunciano nelle loro storie in un modo in cui la censura non potesse ammonirli.

La storia è molto accattivante, i personaggi sono molto interessanti e la narrazione è fluida e scorrevole. Come è giusto in un romanzo giallo ci sono i soliti colpi di scena anche se, non tanto sorprendenti ma, questo per il momento è solo una questione di esperienza in quanto ho grandi aspettative da questa scrittrice e sono sicura che il suo talento si affinerà sempre di più. Normalmente non leggo questo genere di libri ma la narrazione di Alessia Basso, concettualizzata ma non disagevole, documentata ma non petulante, leggera ma non superficiale, mi ha fatto riconsiderare le mie scelte. Vi confesso che ho letto con molto piacere questo libro e anche se non mi ha dato spunti di riflessione mi ha arricchito culturalmente e storicamente e lo consiglio a tutti coloro che vogliono leggere un romanzo accattivante ed informativo.

Today I will review another book, a book that pleasantly surprised me. The title of the book is The Bite of the Viper by the Italian writer, Alice Basso. First of all, I must warn you that this novel is not the usual book that I buy and read, and in fact I didn't buy it but it was given to me by a very dear friend of mine. The writer did not win the Nobel Prize but she is still very young and talented and who knows what she will do in the future. I'll start by describing the cover, which was actually the thing that kept me from reading the book the most because it's a typical romance novel cover. As soon as I started reading the book, the plot, but above all the context in which the writer placed her story, caught my attention. The historical period in which the events of this novel take place is the interwar period, specifically, 1935. In that period, as you well know, Mussolini governed Italy and his offensive in Africa had just begun. The main characters are Anita Bo, a young girl who, to temporarily escape marriage to the boy of her dreams, agrees to work as a typist at a magazine in vogue at the time and Sebastiano Satta Ascona, writer, translator and editor at the magazine where Anita is hired. Anita, from the author's description, as well as from all her acquaintances, is a very beautiful girl and what she lacks in intelligence and general culture, she makes up for with a marked cunning and what decades later will be called personal intelligence. Sebastiano on the other hand, like all male characters in romance novels written by female authors, is a perfect man, physically handsome, intelligent, charismatic, talented, charming, courageous, in short, the complete package. The boyfriends of our main characters are created following the same design in terms of beauty, attractiveness, wealth and social position but what abounds from the point of view of appearances is lacking on an intellectual level, both for Corrado and for Maria Vittoria, called Mavi. The writer was more generous with Clara, Anita's friend and Candida, their typing teacher. In describing this group of women and friends, the author has brought out her best arsenal, if I may use this metaphor in the context of a novel that is preparing for war. We discover in them the figures who understand the social situation of women in that political context and combat it in their area by fighting for their financial and personal independence. Since at that time the role of women in society was that of wife and mother, the law allowing only unmarried women to work, finding women in that context who made their economic and moral independence a priority must not have been easy to realize. In fact, in that era, many jobs and many professions could not be practiced by women so to make the story of the novel credible, Alessia Basso did a great job of documentation, finding in the records of the time a typing teacher with the same name. Same documentation work also for the members of the party and its offices and representatives, for the material that our main characters use in their magazine and even for the magazine itself, as Saturnalia was really an Italian magazine that at that time, translated novels and stories from popular magazines in the United States. To be honest, I talked about the fictional side of our story, leaving the true intent and format of this book for last since The Viper's Bite is a mystery, a detective novel in which the role of the detectives is acquitted by our writer and his typist. On the model of the stories with the detectives that they translate for Saturnalia, the two characters smell the rot, identify the culprit and denounce him in their stories in a way in which the censors could not reprehend them.

The story is very captivating, the characters are very interesting and the narrative is fluid and flowing. As is right in a mystery novel there are the usual twists and turns although not very surprising but for the moment this is just a question of experience as I have high expectations from this writer and I am sure that her talent will always be refined moreover. Normally I don't read this type of book but Alessia Basso's narration, conceptualized but not uncomfortable, documented but not petulant, light but not superficial, made me reconsider my choices. I confess that I read this book with great pleasure and even if it didn't give me food for thought, it enriched me culturally and historically and I recommend it to all those who want to read a captivating and informative novel.

Maitreyi di Mircea Eliade - recensione letteraria / Maitreyi by Mircea Eliade - book review

 

Carissimi amici e lettori,

Oggi recensirò il romanzo Maitreyi dello scrittore rumeno Mircea Eliade. Fare riferimento a Mircea Eliade solo come scrittore significherebbe sminuire la sua opera e la sua persona perché Mircea Eliade era filosofo, saggista, storico delle religioni, antropologo, orientalista, mitografo, esoterista e accademico, avendo lui insegnato all’università di Sorbona, Ecole des Hautes Etudes e finalmente all’università di Chicago, negli Stati Uniti. Mircea Eliade è sempre stato un grande viaggiatore e uomo di cultura, parlava 8 lingue e aveva collaborato con le più grandi personalità del tempo come Carl Gustav Jung, Eugène Ionesco, Giuseppe Tucci, Ernst Junger e tanti altri. Il suo viaggio in India dal 1928 al 1931 segnò il suo orientamento filosofico e letterario. Varie sue opere furono il risultato di questa esperienza, tra le quali anche il romanzo che recensirò oggi, Maitreyi.

Alla prima vista, Maitreyi sembra essere un romanzo d’amore ma in realtà è molto più. Il filo conduttore di questo romanzo è infatti la storia di amore che nasce fra Maitreyi, un’adolescente appartenente ad una ricca famiglia indiana ed Allan, un giovane impiegato di origini europee, trovatosi in India per motivi lavorativi ai tempi in cui il paese era ancora una colonia britannica. A questo filo conduttore s’intrecciano anche componenti mistici, filosofici, etici nonché aspetti importanti del romanzo di formazione per convogliare armoniosamente in una splendida unione che ha come risultato un romanzo complesso e allo stesso tempo semplice. Oltre ai nostri personaggi principali, ad animare le poco più di due cento pagine di questo libro abbiamo anche: l’ingegnere Narendra Sen, padre di Maitreyi e datore di lavoro di Allan, sua moglie, la signora Sen, Chabu, sorella più giovane di Maitreyi, Harold, amico e confidente di Allan, Geurtrie, amica spasimante di Allan e un lungo numero di dipendenti della famiglia Sen, con ruoli per niente trascurabili nello sviluppo della narrazione.

La narrazione è fluida e coinvolgente come una danza che passa con eleganza da movimenti soavi a pause di angoscia e apprensione e culmina con ritmi allerti di sofferenza e vero strazio. Il linguaggio è ricco, ricercato e allo stesso tempo comprensibile ad un livello istintivo. Leggere questo romanzo è come sperimentare un abbraccio, quando senti ogni particolare dell’altro, senza andare a guardare o cercare, lasciandoti semplicemente coinvolgere da un punto di vista sensoriale, affettivo, psicologico e affettivo in un’esperienza edificante.

Non voglio raccontare aspetti di questo romanzo perché vorrei incoraggiarvi a scoprirlo personalmente e vi assicuro che sarà un’esperienza indimenticabile. Io l’ho letto due volte nella mia vita, la prima volta in adolescenza, in rumeno, la lingua in cui fu scritto in origine e adesso in italiano, quanto una mentalità diversa e con molta più esperienza come lettore ed entrambe le volte sono rimasta affascinata. Forse la seconda volta l’ho apprezzato ancora di più, vuoi per la mia passione per le lingue straniere, che avvolgono tutto in suono più melodico e dolce alle mie orecchie, vuoi perché con il tempo ho approfondito meglio certi concetti, ma la conclusione rimane la stessa, Maitreyi è un romanzo che raccomando caldamente.

Today I will review the novel Maitreyi by the Romanian writer Mircea Eliade. Referring to Mircea Eliade only as a writer would belittle his work and his person because Mircea Eliade was a philosopher, essayist, historian of religions, anthropologist, orientalist, mythographer, esotericist and academic, having taught at the Sorbonne University, Ecole des Hautes Etudes and finally at the University of Chicago, in the United States. Mircea Eliade has always been a great traveler and a man of culture, he spoke 8 languages ​​and had collaborated with the greatest personalities of the time such as Carl Gustav Jung, Eugène Ionesco, Giuseppe Tucci, Ernst Junger and many others. His trip to India from 1928 to 1931 marked his philosophical and literary orientation. Several of his works were the result of this experience, including the novel I will review today, Maitreyi.

At first glance, Maitreyi seems to be a romance novel but in reality, it is much more. The underlying theme of this novel is in fact the love story that develops between Maitreyi, a teenager from a rich Indian family and Allan, a young employee of European origins who found himself in India for work at a time when the country was still a British colony. Mystical, philosophical, ethical components as well as important aspects of the Bildungsroman are also intertwined with this underlying theme to harmoniously convey a splendid union that results in a complex and at the same time simple novel. In addition to our main characters, the little more than two hundred pages of this book are also animated by: the engineer Narendra Sen, Maitreyi's father and Allan's employer, his wife, Mrs. Sen, Chabu, Maitreyi's younger sister, Harold, Allan's friend and confidant, Geurtrie, Allan's amorous friend and a long list of employees of the Sen family, with roles that are by no means negligible in the development of the narrative.

The narration is fluid and engaging like a dance that elegantly passes from gentle movements to pauses of anguish and apprehension and culminates with alert rhythms of suffering and true torment. The language is rich, refined and at the same time understandable on an instinctive level. Reading this novel is like experiencing a hug, when you feel every detail of the other, without going to look or search, simply letting yourself be involved from a sensorial, emotional, psychological and affective point of view in an edifying experience.

I don’t want to reveal to you the aspects of this novel because I would like to encourage you to discover it personally and I assure you that it will be an unforgettable experience. I have read it twice in my life, the first time in adolescence, in Romanian, the language in which it was originally written and now in Italian, with a different mentality and with much more experience as a reader and both times I was fascinated. Perhaps the second time I appreciated it even more, either because of my passion for foreign languages, which envelop everything in a more melodic and sweet sound to my ears, or because over time I have better explored certain concepts, but the conclusion remains the same, Maitreyi is a novel that I warmly recommend.

Referindu-ne la Mircea Eliade doar ca scriitor, ar bagateliza opera și persoana lui, deoarece Mircea Eliade a fost filozof, eseist, istoric al religiilor, antropolog, orientalist, mitograf, ezoterist și academic, care a predat la Sorbona University, Ecole des Hautes Etudes și în cele din urmă la Universitatea din Chicago, în Statele Unite. Mircea Eliade a fost întotdeauna un mare călător și un om de cultură, a vorbit 8 limbi și a colaborat cu cele mai mari personalități ale vremii precum Carl Gustav Jung, Eugène Ionesco, Giuseppe Tucci, Ernst Junger și mulți alții. Călătoria sa în India din 1928 până în 1931 a marcat orientarea sa filozofică și literară. Câteva dintre lucrările sale au fost rezultatul acestei experiențe, inclusiv romanul pe care îl voi revizui astăzi, Maitreyi.

La prima vedere, Maitreyi pare a fi un roman de dragoste, dar în realitate este mult mai mult de atat. Tema de bază a acestui roman este, de fapt, povestea de dragoste care se dezvoltă între Maitreyi, o adolescenta dintr-o familie indiană bogată, și Allan, un tânăr angajat de origini europene care s-a găsit în India pentru muncă într-o perioadă în care țara era încă o colonie britanică. Acest fir comun include și componente mistice, filozofice, etice precum și aspecte importante ale Bildungsromanului, care converg armonios într-o unire splendidă care are ca rezultat un roman complex și în același timp simplu. Pe lângă personajele noastre principale, cele mai puțin de două sute de pagini ale acestei cărți sunt animate și de: inginerul Narendra Sen, tatăl lui Maitreyi și angajatorul lui Allan, soția sa, doamna Sen, Chabu, sora mai mică a lui Maitreyi, Harold, prietenul și confidentul lui Allan, Geurtrie, prietena si admiratoarea lui Allan, dar si o listă îndelungată de angajati ai familiei Sen, cu un roluri neglijabile în dezvoltarea narațiunii.

Narațiunea este fluidă și captivantă asemeni un dans care trece elegant de la mișcări blânde la pauze de angoasă și aprehensiune și culminează cu ritmuri alerte de suferință și chin adevărat. Limbajul este bogat, sofisticat și în același timp ușor de înțeles la nivel instinctiv. Citirea acestui roman este ca experienta unei îmbrățișari, când simți fiecare detaliu al celuilalt, fără a fi nevoie să te uiți sau să cauți, pur și simplu lăsându-te implicat din punct de vedere senzorial, emoțional, psihologic și afectiv într-o experiență edificatoare.

Nu vreau să vă povestesc aspecte ale acestui roman pentru că aș dori să vă încurajez să îl descoperiți personal și vă asigur că va fi o experiență de neuitat. L-am citit de două ori în viața mea, prima dată în adolescență, în limba română, limba în care a fost scris inițial, iar acum în italiană, cu o altă mentalitate și mult mai multă experiență de cititor, și de ambele ori m-a fascinat. Poate a doua oară l-am apreciat și mai mult, fie din cauza pasiunii mele pentru limbile străine, care învăluie totul într-un sunet mai melodic și mai dulce pentru urechi, fie pentru că de-a lungul timpului am înțeles mai bine anumite concepte, dar concluzia rămâne aceeași, Maitreyi este un roman pe care îl recomand cu căldura.

Il letto disfatto di Françoise Sagan - recensione letteraria / The unmade bed by Françoise Sagan - book review

Ciao carissimi lettori,

Oggi vorrei recensire un libro. Purtroppo non riesco sempre a recensire i libri subito averli letti almeno che non fossero libri a forte impatto e quindi per tutti gli altri libri, passa un po’ di tempo da quando vengono letti fino a quando riesco a recensirli. Il libro che recensirò oggi è “Il letto disfatto” di Françoise Sagan, un romanzo che parla d’amore, sogni, vita, piacere, dolore, perdita e sofferenza analizzando da un punto di vista strutturale le molle, le dimensioni e l’intensità. Il titolo originale è “Le lit défait” uscito in Francia nel 1977 e pubblicato in Italia nello stesso anno dalla casa editrice Mondadori. Il libro che ho letto io è stato pubblicato nel dicembre 1978 presso la Nuova Stampa Mondadori e l’ho comprato in una fiera dell'antiquariato.

I personaggi principali sono Béatrice Valmont, una bellissima attrice, famosa per le sue storie d’amore quanto per la sua bravura e il giovane e promettente commediografo Edouard Maligrasse. Lo scenario è un mondo cosmopolito, frivolo e sostanzialmente solitario del teatro parigino degli anni ’70 in cui dive e primedonne autoreferianziali e avide di applausi vivono il loro sogno di clamore fra amori effimeri, amici utili e solitudine personale. In questo mondo entra Edouard, talentuoso e allo stesso tempo fragile, alla ricerca della sua dea, Beatrice. I due avevano già avuto dei trascorsi che non si erano finalizzati nel modo desiderato per Edouard ma questo non le impedisce di sperare nell’amore di Beatrice. Altri personaggi degni di considerazione sono Tony d’Albret, la cinica, spietata e sagace impresaria, complice e critica delle avventure di Beatrice e André Jolyet, uomo di teatro culto, affascinante, raffinato ma morente a causa di un cancro che lo rende più riflessivo ed empatico. Confesso che Jolyet è l’unico personaggio amante di Beatrice che mi fosse rimasto impresso nella mente, il resto sono solo una mandria di maschi con tratti simili che servono solo a procurare piacere a Beatrice. Stento a ricordare distintamente Nicolas, Basil, Raol o Cyril, l’unico motivo per cui vengono nominati è per illustrare le avventure e i tradimenti di Beatrice. Una critica che avrei voluto fare alla scrittrice è che in questo romanzo si è dedicata troppo alla creazione del personaggio di Beatrice e ha trascurato i personaggi non principali. Abbiamo anche un netto sbilancio fra i personaggi maschili e quelli femminili sia numerica sia come spessore caratteriale. Mentre i personaggi maschili sono in superiorità numerica, i personaggi femminili sono caratterialmente descritti meglio e hanno più spessore. Personaggi come Beatrice, Edouard e Tony ricevono più spazio all’interno del romanzo e sono implicitamente strutturati meglio mentre personaggi come Cyril, Kurt, Raoul o Basil vengono menzionati solo in rapporto ai personaggi principali. È palese che Béatrice fosse una persona egoista, sfrontata, ambiziosa e infedele ma dai suoi monologhi interiori magistralmente descritti dall’autrice possiamo scoprire anche una Béatrice passionale, compassionevole e fedele a se stessa come persona. Edouard invece cerca in un modo masochista di farsi amare ed è disposto a perdonare tutto purché la donna che ama torni sempre da lui. Ho avuto la netta sensazione che il suo successo fosse dovuto almeno in parte anche alle disavventure con Beatrice e che la sofferenza lo abbia reso uno scrittore migliore. Ecco perché mi sorge spontaneo l’interrogativo su cos’altro sta dietro al suo masochismo e al suo desiderio di perdonare Beatrice.

Per sintetizzare, questo romanzo non è altro che un balletto di storie d’amore, desideri, tradimenti, passioni e promesse infrante. Ho apprezzato il tempo che l’autrice ha preso per analizzare le diverse sfaccettature di ogni singolo nuovo sentimento e il modo in cui ha descritto il suo integrarsi nella rete intricata dei rapporti fra personaggi e le loro aspirazioni. Ho apprezzato anche l’attenzione che la scrittrice attribuisce all’universo dei rapporti femminili, rapporti di concorrenza, invidia, reticenza ma anche di fiducia catturati magistralmente in frasi come: “antica camerateria femminile […] ferocia e il disprezzo reciproci”.

Vorrei dire solo una cosa sul finale di questo romanzo e anche se non mi piace fare gli spoiler, e questo non lo sarà, vorrei solo dire che speravo finisse in un modo diverso. Dal mio punto di vista, certe storie e certi romanzi, per la loro complessità si meritano un finale notevole, memorabile e la storia di Beatrice e di Edouard era una di quelle storie. Non dico che il finale non sia impressionante, lo è ma, credo che sia soprattutto un finale molto probabile e comune.

In conclusione ho gradito leggere questo libro, non lo reputo un romanzo importante oppure un romanzo che mi abbia fatto riflettere su certi valori, eventi o aspetti della vita ma è comunque un romanzo scritto molto bene, un romanzo degno di essere letto prima o poi, meglio durante le vacanze. Io lo includerei nella categoria romanzi rosa, romanzi rosa di alta classe e come tale dovrebbe essere considerato cardine e pietra miliare di questo tipo di letteratura.

Today I would like to review a book. Unfortunately, I can't always review the books right after reading them unless they were of high impact and therefore for all the other books, it takes me some time from when I read them until I can make the reviews. The book I will review today is "The Unmade Bed" by Françoise Sagan, a novel that talks about love, dreams, life, pleasure, pain, loss and suffering by analyzing from a structural point of view its springs, dimensions and intensity. The original title is "Le lit défait" which was released in France in 1977 and published in Italy in the same year by the Mondadori publishing house. The book I read was published in December 1978 at the Nuova Stampa Mondadori and I bought it at an antiques fair.

The main characters are Béatrice Valmont, a beautiful actress, famous for her love stories as for her acting talent and the young and promising playwright Edouard Maligrasse. The scenario is a cosmopolitan, frivolous and substantially solitary world of the Parisian theater of the 70s in which self-referential and eager for applause divas and leading ladies  live their dream of clamor among ephemeral loves, useful friends and personal solitude. Edouard, talented and at the same time fragile man, enters this world in search of his goddess, Beatrice. The two had already had a history that had not been finalized in the way Edouard desidered it, but this does not stop him from wishing Beatrice's love. Other characters worthy of consideration are Tony d'Albret, the cynical, ruthless and sagacious entrepreneur, accomplice and critic of the adventures of Beatrice and André Jolyet, a cult theater man, charming, refined but dying due to a cancer that makes him more reflective and empathetic. I confess that Jolyet is the only Beatrice's lover character  that had stuck in my mind, the rest are just a herd of males with similar traits that only serve to bring pleasure to Beatrice. I can hardly remember Nicolas, Basil, Raol or Cyril distinctly, the only reason they are named is to illustrate Beatrice's adventures and betrayals.

One criticism that I would have liked to make to the writer is that in this novel she dedicated too much attention to the creation of the character of Beatrice and neglected the non-main characters. We also have a clear imbalance between male and female characters both numerically and in terms of characterial depth. While male characters are numerically superior, female characters are characteristically better described and have more depth. Characters like Beatrice, Edouard and Tony receive more space within the novel and are implicitly better structured while characters like Cyril, Kurt, Raoul or Basil are mentioned only in relation to the main characters. It is clear that Béatrice was a selfish, bold, ambitious and unfaithful person but from her inner monologues masterfully described by the author we can also discover a passionate, faithful to herself and compassionate person. Edouard instead tries in a masochistic way to make himself loved and is willing to forgive everything as long as the woman he loves always comes back to him. I had the distinct feeling that his success was at least partly due to the misadventures with Beatrice and that suffering made him a better writer. That's why the question arises spontaneously on what else lies behind his masochism and his desire to forgive Beatrice.

To summarize, this novel is nothing more than a ballet of love stories, desires, betrayals, passions and broken promises. I appreciated the time the author took to analyze the different facets of each single new feeling and the way in which she described its integration into the intricate network of relationships between characters and their aspirations. I also appreciated the attention that the writer attributes to the universe of female interrelations, bonds of competition, envy, reticence but also of trust are masterfully captured in phrases such as: "ancient female camaraderie [...] ferocity and mutual contempt".

I would like to say only one thing about the ending of this novel and even if I don't like to do spoilers, and this won't be one, I only want to say that I hoped it would have ended in a different way. From my point of view, certain stories and certain novels, due to their complexity, deserve a remarkable, memorable ending and the story of Beatrice and Edouard was one of those stories. I am not saying that the ending is not impressive, it is, but I think it is above all a very probable and common ending.

In conclusion I enjoyed reading this book, I do not consider it an important novel or a novel that made me reflect on certain values, events or aspects of life but it is still a well written novel, a novel worthy of being read sooner or later, better in holydays. I would include it in the category of romance novels, high-class romance novels and as such, should be considered cornerstone and milestone of this type of literature.

Nu stiu voi cum sunteti (Ha, ca si Creanga) dar mie romanele de dragoste mi se par foarte dificil de citit si de digerat. Eu incerc mereu sa citesc un astfel de roman dupa un alt roman serios ce a tratat subiecte importante si impresionante in speranta ca imi poate relaxa mintea si sufletul, ca un fel de spalare a trairilor puternice, o recreare. Din nefericire, modul in care sunt scrise aceste romane lejere dar mai ales subiectele pe care le trateaza ma fac sa inebunesc si imi creaza o adevarata indigestie cognitiva, daca exista asa ceva. Descriu subiecte , momente, intamplari care nu nimic in comun cu realitatea, destinate doar sa inflameze imaginatia adolescentilor si frustrarea persoanelor adulte care se confrunta zilnic cu realitatea. Lasand la o parte aceasta introducere, voi trece sa analizez cartea cu pricina. Trebuie sa precizez ca subiectul in acest caz este unul comun, o fata, Tracie, cu  o cariera normala si o viata normala,  decide sa isi transforme cel mai bun prieten intr-un tip traznet, la moda, un adevarat magnet pentru gagici. Idea vine de la el, Jon, un tip cu un statut financiar bun si o functie importanta, la o firma de informatica dar care nu reuseste sa isi faca o iubita pentru ca nu are talent la “agatat”. Pana aici treaba e credibila, vedem una din nenumaratele angajate frustrate si exploatate de sefi si un tip “nerdy” neindemanatic si singur. Tracie reuseste in acest caz sensibil si pentru ca Jon pana la urma are tot ce ii trebuie dar insuccesul sau cu fetele se pare, era cauzat de o garderoba depasita si o tunsoare care nu era la moda. In momentul in care schimba aceste elemente si incepe sa copieze atitudinea unor diferiti actori, in special James Dean (se vede ca scriitoarea avea o pasiune adolescentiala pentru acest actor) Jon incepe sa aiba un succes incredibil la femei incepand de la colegele de munca ale lui Tracie pana la vecinele de bloc si in principal orice fata ii iese in cale cade la picioarele sale inebunite de geaca second hand si atitudinea “eu sunt cool, dar nu stiu daca vreau ceva de la tine”. In principiu Tracie il invata sa se lase dorit, sa devina un baiat rau, neglijent si superficial. Partea care mi s-a parut de science fiction consta in faptul ca desi el era un tolomac si un ratat cu fetele s-a dovedit a fi de la inceput un soi de vedeta de filme porno (as fi folosit un nume dar nu vreau sa ii fac reclama). Va mai spun ca in timpul acestei tentative de metamorfoza reiese ca ei sunt de fapt indragostiti unul de celalalt de la bun inceput, si acesta un lucru destul de realistic. Va mai vorbesc despre alte personaje cheie in acest roman, Laura, cea mai buna prietena a lui Tracie, o fata grasuta, acida si isteata (stereotip), Molly, chelnerita sarcastica care observa si asculta clientii si atunci cand acestia nu vor acest lucru, Alisson, colega super sexy a lui Tracie, care isi face drum in viata datorita sex-appeal-ului, (alt stereotip), Phil, iubitul lui Tracie, membru al unei trupe rock,nemernic, misterios si sexy, el constituie modelul dupa care Tracie il schimba pe Jon si Marcus, seful super critic si ticalos care prefera si sustinele angajatele care i se ofera (inca un stereotip). Cred ca ati inteles ca aceasta carte e plina de stereotipuri, marturisesc insa ca pana sa ajung la final am reusit sa o citesc cu un oarecare interes datorita scenelor si replicilor usor amuzante, stil seria tv Seinfel care este nominalizata si in mod evident a fost o sursa de insipratie.  Lucrurile pe care nu le-am apreciat absolut deloc au fost, in primul rand titlul in italiana, care nu are nimic de a face cu subiectul romanului, la inceput ma asteptam ca povestea de dragoste sa nasca intre Tracie si seful  ei, dar cred ca pentru  acest lucru nu e vina Oliviei Goldsmith, scriitoarea cartii, e o gafa a traducatorului, si finalul romanului. Nu am de gand sa fac un spoiler chiar daca finalul acestei carti este predictibil, nu m-a deranjat cum s-a incheiat acest roman ci modul in care a fost ilustrat, modul in care scriitoarea a decis sa descrie acest moment. Desi pana in acest punct naratiunea a fost convingatoare si sustinuta, finalul lasa de dorit intrucat este superficial, gol, pripit. Desi plin de stereotipuri de la bun inceput, finalul este un mare si oribil cliseu, o reprezentare a conceptului invechit a femeii care are nevoie de un barbat pentru a se descurca in viata, pentru a depasi conditia social-economic inferioara si problematica. Lasand la o parte finalul dezamagitor, cartea nu este atat de rea daca reusiti sa treceti cu vederea diversele clisee si sa ignorati neintemeierea unor actiuni si intamplari. Va multumesc pentru vizita si raman disponibile pentru orice intrebare sau dubiu puteti avea. Va imbratisez cu drag!

P.S: Olivia Goldsmith este autoarea romanului Clubul primelor neveste dupa care a fost realizat filmul cu acelasi nume.

Non so voi, ma a me i miei romanzi rosa sembrano molto difficili da leggere e digerire. Cerco sempre di leggere un romanzo simile dopo un altro romanzo impegnativo che tratta argomenti importanti e impressionanti nella speranza che mi possa rilassare mentalmente e spiritualmente come una sorta di lavaggio di forti emozioni, come uno svago. Sfortunatamente, il modo in cui questi romanzi rosa sono scritti, ma soprattutto i temi trattati, mi fanno impazzire e mi creano una vera e propria indigestione cognitiva, se mai esistesse una cosa del genere. Descrivono argomenti, momenti, eventi che non hanno nulla in comune con la realtà, creati solo per infiammare l'immaginazione e la frustrazione degli adulti che affrontano la realtà quotidiana. Lasciando da parte parte questa introduzione, adesso intendo recensire questo il libro. Devo dire che l'argomento in questo caso è comune, una ragazza, Tracie, con una carriera normale e una vita normale, decide di trasformare il suo miglior amico in un ragazzo figo, alla moda, una vera calamita per le ragazze. L'idea parte da lui, Jon, un ragazzo con una buona situazione finanziaria e una posizione importante in una società IT, ma che non riesce ad avere una fidanzata perché non ha talento nel rimorchiare. Finora, la situazione è credibile, vediamo una delle innumerevoli lavoratrici frustrate e sfruttate dai superiori e un tipo "nerd" maldestro e solitario. Tracie ci riesce in questa impresa sensibile anche perché Jon ha tutto ciò di cui ha bisogno, ma il suo fallimento con le ragazze sembra essere stato causato da un guardaroba e un taglio di capelli non alla moda. Appena cambia questi elementi e inizia a copiare gli atteggiamenti dei diversi attori, in particolare James Dean (si vede che la scrittrice aveva una passione adolescenziale per questo attore), Jon inizia ad avere un incredibile successo con le donne a cominciare dalle colleghe di lavoro di Tracie, alle sue vicine di condominio, e fondamentalmente ogni ragazza li passa accanto, cade ai suoi piedi impazzite dalla giacca seconda mano e il suo atteggiamento"Sono fico, ma non so se voglio qualcosa da te". In linea di principio, Tracie gli insegna come fare per essere desiderabile, per diventare un ragazzo cattivo, negligente e superficiale.  La parte che mi è sembrata di fantascienza è stato il fatto che sebbene lui fosse un vero imbranato e un perdente con le ragazze si rivelò fin dall'inizio una specie di pornostar (userei un nome ma non voglio pubblicizzarlo). Vi dico anche che durante questo tentativo di metamorfosi risulta che in realtà loro due sono innamorati sin dall'inizio, e questo è abbastanza realistico. Voglio parlarvi anche degli altri personaggi chiave in questo romanzo, Laura, la migliore amica di Tracie, una ragazza grassoccia, acida e intelligente (stereotipo), Molly, la cameriera sarcastica che guarda e ascolta i clienti anche quando questi non lo vogliono, Alisson, la collega super sexy di Tracy che si fa strada nella vita attraverso l'attrazione sessuale, Phil, l'amante di Tracie, membro di una rock band, folle, misterioso e sexy, è costituisce il modello secondo quale Tracie trasforma Jon, e Marcus, il capo super-critico e canaglia che preferisce e sostiene le dipendenti che gli si offrono (ancora uno stereotipo). Penso che abbiate capito che questo libro è pieno di stereotipi, tuttavia confesso che sono riuscita a leggerlo con un certo interesse fino a quando sono arrivata alla fine grazie a delle scene e dei commenti un po 'divertenti, nello stile della serie TV Seinfel che venne anche nominata ed è ovviamente una fonte d'spirazione. Le cose che non ho apprezzato affatto sono, prima di tutto, il titolo in italiano, che non ha nulla a che fare con l'argomento del romanzo, all'inizio mi aspettavo che la storia d'amore nascesse tra Tracie e il suo capo, ma penso che questo non fosse colpa di Olivia Goldsmith, la scrittrice del libro, ma un errore del traduttore e non per ultimo, anche il finale del romanzo. Non farò uno spoiler anche se il finale di questo libro è prevedibile, non mi ha infastidito il finale di questo romanzo, ma il modo in cui fu illustrato e descritto dalla scrittrice. Sebbene fino a questo punto la narrativa fosse convincente e sostenuta, il finale lascia da desiderare in quanto superficiale, vacuo, affrettato. Sebbene sia pieno di stereotipi fin dall'inizio, il finale è un cliché bello grosso e orribile, una rappresentazione del concetto obsoleto di una donna che ha bisogno di un uomo per andare avanti e per superare una condizione sociale ed economica inferiore. Lasciando da parte il finale deludente, il libro non è poi così male se si riesce a trascurare i diversi cliché e ignorare la mancanza di fondamento nei fatti e nelle azioni. I do not know about you, but to me the romance novels seem very difficult to read and digest. I always try to read a similar novel after another challenging novel that deals with important and impressive topics in the hope that I can relax mentally and spiritually as a sort of washing of strong emotions, as leisure. Unfortunately, the way in which these romances are written, but above all the themes that these books deal with, drive me crazy and create a real cognitive indigestion, if such a thing ever existed. They describe topics, moments, events that have nothing in common with reality, created only to inflame the imagination and frustration of adults who face everyday reality. Leaving this introduction aside, I now want to review this book. I must say that the topic in this case is common, a girl, Tracie, with a normal career and a normal life, decides to turn her best friend into a cool, trendy guy, a real magnet for girls. The idea starts with him, Jon, a guy with a good financial situation and an important position in an IT company, but who can not get a girlfriend because he has no talent in picking up girls. So far, the situation is believable, we see one of the innumerable workers frustrated and exploited by the superiors and a clumsy and lonely "nerd" guy. Tracie succeeds in this sensitive enterprise also because Jon has everything he needs, but his failure with the girls seems to have been caused by a wardrobe and a non-fashionable hairstyle. As soon as he changes these elements and begins to copy the attitudes of different actors, especially James Dean (we see that the writer had a teenage crush for this actor), Jon starts to have an incredible success with the women starting from Tracie's work colleagues, to his neighbors on the flat complex, and basically every girl passes next to him, falls at his feet crazy for his the second hand jacket and his attitude "I'm cool, but I do not know if you can  interest me".  In principle, Tracie teaches him how to be desirable, to become a bad boy, negligent and superficial. The part that seemed to me to be science fiction was the fact that although he was a real wimp and a loser with the girls, he turned out to be some kind of porn star from the beginning (I would use a name but I do not want to advertise). I also tell you that during this attempt of metamorphosis it turns out that in reality they are in love from the beginning, and this is quite realistic. I also want to talk to you about the other key characters in this novel, Laura, Tracie's best friend, a plump, acid and intelligent girl (stereotype), Molly, the sarcastic waitress who watches and listens to customers even when they do not want it, Alisson, Tracy's super sexy colleague who makes her way through life thanks to her sex-appeal, Phil,Tracie's boyfriend, a member of a rock band, crazy, mysterious and sexy who also is the model according to which Tracie transforms Jon, and Marcus, the super-critic and scoundrel leader who prefers and supports the employees who offer themselves to him (another stereotype). I think you have understood that this book is full of stereotypes, however I confess that I was able to read it with some interest until I finally arrived to the end also thanks to some funny scenes and comments, similar to those of the TV series Seinfel that also was nominated and was obviously a source of inspiration. The things that I did not appreciate at all are, first of all, the title in Italian, which has nothing to do with the topic of the novel, at the beginning I expected a love story between Tracie and her boss , but I think this was not Olivia Goldsmith's, the writer of the book, fault but is a mistake in translation and last but not least the end of the novel. I will not make a spoiler even if the end of this book is predictable, it did not bother me the ending of this novel, but the way it was illustrated and described by the writer. Although up to this point the narrative was convincing and sustained, the ending leaves something to be desired, inasmuch superficial, vacuous and hasty. Although it is full of stereotypes from the beginning, the ending is a big and horrible cliché, a representation of the obsolete concept that a woman needs a man to move forward and overcome a lower social and economic condition. Leaving aside the disappointing ending, the book is not so bad if you can overlook the different cliché and ignore the lack of foundation in the facts and actions.
