Oggi vorrei parlarvi di una linea cosmetica che ho usato con grande piacere l'anno scorso. In realtà, uso ancora alcuni dei prodotti di questa linea perciò ho ancora presente nella mente e nei miei sensi la fragranza lussuriosa e le sensazioni riconfortanti e rilassanti che la linea The Ritual of Ayurveda del marchio Rituals offre. L'ayurveda, scienza della vita, ha alla base il principio di condurre una vita equilibrata. Questa antica sapienza indiana aiuta a migliorare la salute e il benessere del corpo purificando e nutrendo l'energia. La collezione The Ritual of Ayurveda è stata accuratamente progettata per sostenere questa filosofia e quindi realizzare una linea di prodotti esclusivi per la casa e per il corpo che aiutano a bilanciare corpo, mente e anima. Il segreto ed il punto forte di questa linea sono due ingredienti preziosi: la rosa indiana e l'olio di mandorle molci. Mentre l'olio contribuisce a regolare l'equilibrio idrolipidico della pelle, la rosa indiana regala un profumo dolce e delicato, dando vita a una composizione floreale, nocciolata e fruttata che armonizza, rilassa e coccola i sensi.

Vi presenterò successivamente i prodotti che ho usato, allontanandomi strutturalmente dalle mie solite recensioni ma facendo comunque tutte le considerazioni e valutazioni che ritengo opportune.

I will then present the products I used, departing structurally from my usual reviews but still making all the considerations and evaluations I deem appropriate.

Questo prodotto è speciale perché ha una formula da gel a schiuma che si trasforma e fiorisce nel palmo della mano inebriandoci con una lussuosa fragranza floreale e una consistenza finissima e cremosa. Grazie a questi antichi ingredienti ayurvedici lascia la pelle morbida, soffice come la seta e nutrita. Viene realizzato con il 91% di ingredienti di origine naturale, mentre il restante 9% è costituito da ingredienti creati in laboratorio a supporto dell'integrità e della sicurezza del marchio Rituals. Ho usato diversi docciaschiuma, il primo, mi fu regalato dopo l'iscrizione e successivamente ne fui talmente estasiata che non resistetti a ricomprarlo svariate volte. Il prezzo, 10,90€ per 200 ml so che può essere alto, se si cerca un semplice prodotto per lavarsi, ma il docciaschiuma the ritual of ayurveda è una vera esperienza di vita. È una coccola quando ci si sente tristi, una ricarica quando ci si sente giù e una gioia avvolgente in qualsiasi altro momento. Inoltre, la pelle mi ha ringraziato ogni volta, non avendone quasi bisogno della crema corpo ma che ho usato comunque alcune volte per completare il trattamento di benessere.

The Ritual of Ayurveda Shower Gel - 200 ml metal tube

This product is unique because it features a gel-to-foam formula that transforms and blossoms in the palm of your hand, enveloping us with a luxurious floral fragrance and a fine, creamy texture. Thanks to these ancient Ayurvedic ingredients, it leaves the skin soft, silky smooth, and nourished. It is made with 91% naturally derived ingredients, while the remaining 9% are lab-created ingredients, supporting the integrity and safety of the Rituals brand. I've used several shower gels. The first one was given to me as a gift after signing up, and I was so thrilled with it that I couldn't resist buying it again several times. I know the price, €10.90 for 200 ml, can be a bit high if you're just looking for a simple cleansing product, but the Ritual of Ayurveda shower gel is a true life experience. It's a treat when you're feeling sad, a boost when you're feeling down, and an enveloping joy at any other time. Plus, my skin thanked me every time, barely needing the body cream, that I still used it a few times, to complete the wellness treatment.

Body scrub al sale - scatola in plastica contenente 300 gr di prodotto 

Il prodotto è uno scrub corpo rigenerante con il 94% di ingredienti di origine naturale, formulato con un mix di oli ricchi e sale rosa che contribuisce a purificare e rigenerare la pelle lasciando una sensazione di divino piacere. Le particelle di guscio di mandorle dolci rimuovono le cellule morte e lasciano la pelle più morbida, nutrita e levigata. Inoltre, lo scrub lascia sulla pelle uno strato sottile e ultra-nutriente di ricchi oli ayurvedici come l'olio di mandorle dolci e olio di cocco e olio di moringa. Ricchi di vitamina E, questi oli offrono una lucentezza sana e naturale dopo che il sale ha rimosso le cellule morte lasciando la pelle nitida e levigata. Ad ogni utilizzo lo scrub va mescolato e una quantità non più grossa di quella che riempie il palmo di una mano è sufficiente per trattare tutto il corpo. Io preferisco però prelevarlo gradualmente e stendere un velo sottile per evitare che cada e mi causi incidenti scivolosi nella doccia o sprechi inutili. Dopo averlo usato la pelle rimane liscia, levigata, soda, setosa e meravigliosamente profumata. Intendo ricomprarlo ma non prima di finire altri prodotti che mi sono stati regalati. E visto che ho adocchiato altri scrub dello stesso marchio, forse ne proverò un altro prima. Il costo dello scrub al momento è di 16.90€ ma io l'ho pagato poco più di 10€, prezzo che trovo giusto sia per le qualità del prodotto che per la quantità (300 g) e non nego che anche il prezzo pieno mi sembra giusto.

Salt Body Scrub - Plastic box containing 300 grams of product

This regenerating body scrub contains 94% naturally derived ingredients, formulated with a blend of rich oils and pink salt that helps purify and regenerate the skin, leaving a sensation of divine pleasure. Sweet almond shell particles remove dead cells, leaving skin softer, nourished, and smoother. Furthermore, the scrub leaves on the skin a thin, ultra-nourishing layer of rich Ayurvedic oils, including sweet almond oil, coconut oil, and moringa oil. Rich in vitamin E, these oils offer a healthy, natural glow after the salt removes dead skin cells, leaving skin clear and smooth. Stir the scrub thoroughly before each use, and a palm-sized amount is enough to treat your entire body. However, I prefer to scoop it out gradually and apply a thin layer to avoid it falling off and causing slippery accidents in the shower or unnecessary waste. After use, the skin is left feeling smooth, supple, firm, silky, and wonderfully scented. I plan to buy it again, but not before I finish some of the other products I was given as gifts. And since I've been eyeing other scrubs from the same brand, I might try another one first. The scrub currently costs €16.90, but I paid just over €10 for it, a price I think is fair for both the product's quality and the quantity (300g), and I won't deny that the full price seems fair too.

Ritual of Ayurveda balancing body cream - contenitore in plastica con coperchio a vite in legno contenente 220 ml di prodotto 

La crema corpo nutriente di The Ritual of Ayurveda è una crema ricca, con una texture soffice e lussuosa arricchita con olio di mandorle dolci ed estratti di rosa indiana per una pelle setosa, morbida e delicatamente profumata. Grazie al l'esclusivo complex Moisture Lock, un mix di ricchi oli naturali con proprietà lenitive, spezie esotiche e muschi bianchi, questa crema avvolge la pelle in un profumo ricco e sensuale lasciandola idratata a lungo, anche 48 ore. La pelle resta idratata, morbida, elastica e senza residui untuosi. Il prodotto si assorbe facilmente ma il massaggio per farlo assorbire è in realtà una coccola. Inoltre bastano piccole quantità per trattare tutto il corpo e visto che la confezione contiene 220 ml, la crema mi è bastata per parecchi mesi. Io l'ho usata a lungo, spesso in combinazione con bagnodoccia normali ed il profumo meraviglioso ha prevalso comunque e durato tutto il giorno trasferendosi anche sull'accapatoio o sulle magliette. Usata in combinazione al bagnoschiuma della stessa linea diventa un'esperienza lussuriosa, rilassante e avvolgente. 

Il costo al momento è di 24,90€, ai tempi, io l'ho pagata solo 19€ ed il barattolo era in plastica. L'aumento del prezzo credo si spieghi anche dal fatto che attualmente questa crema viene commercializzata in barattoli di vetro ma se prima avrei voluto ricomprarla, la nuova tipologia di confezionamento me lo impedisce. Ovviamente è una confezione più lussuosa e chic però, almeno per quanto mi riguarda, il rischio di romperla, causare incidenti e sprechi costosi mi determina ad evitare di comprarla. In merito al mio acquisto ai tempi, il costo di 19€, la quantità di 220 ml, il contenitore di plastica,e tutti i risultati descritti sopra mi fecero considerare un buon rapporto qualità prezzo e l'avrei sicuramente ricomprata ma purtroppo per il momento, visto il cambiamento della tipologia di packaging, non lo farò.

Ritual of Ayurveda Balancing Body Cream - Plastic jar with wooden screw-top lid containing 220 ml of product

The Ritual of Ayurveda's nourishing body cream is a rich cream with a soft, luxurious texture, enriched with sweet almond oil and Indian rose extracts for silky, soft, and delicately scented skin. Thanks to the exclusive Moisture Lock complex, a blend of rich, soothing natural oils, exotic spices, and white musk, this cream envelops the skin in a rich, sensual fragrance, leaving it hydrated for up to 48 hours. Skin is left hydrated, soft, and supple, leaving it free of a greasy residue. The product absorbs easily, but massaging it in is truly a treat. A small amount is enough to treat the entire body, and since the jar contains 220 ml, the cream lasted me for several months. I used it extensively, often in combination with regular shower gels, and the wonderful scent prevailed and lasted all day, even transferring to my bathrobe and T-shirts. Used in combination with the shower gel from the same line, it becomes a luxurious, relaxing, and enveloping experience.

The price currently is €24.90; back then, I paid only €19, and the jar was in plastic. I think the price increase is also explained by the fact that this cream is currently sold in glass jars, but while I would have previously wanted to buy it again, the new type of packaging prevents me from doing so. Obviously, the packaging is more luxurious and chic, but at least for me, the risk of breaking it, causing accidents and costly waste deters me from buying it. Regarding my purchase back then, the cost of €19, the quantity of 220 ml, the plastic packaging, and all the results described above made me consider it good value for money, and I would definitely have bought it again, but unfortunately, for the moment, given the change in the type of packaging, I won't.

Concludo adesso la mia recensione globale dei tre prodotti Rituals della linea Ritual of Ayurveda e credo che userò ancora questo sistema per recensire altre linee di cosmetici con più prodotti della stessa gamma e dove le impressioni sono preponderentemente positive. Fatemi sapere se vi trovate bene con questo output o se preferite il vecchio sistema analitico e schematico. Ovviamente, in quel caso, dovrei realizzare un post per ogni prodotto e richiederebbe molto più tempo e sforzo.

I'm now concluding my overall review of the three Rituals products from the Ritual of Ayurveda line, and I think I'll use this system again to review other cosmetic lines with multiple products from the same line, where the impressions are mostly positive. Obviously, in that case, I'd have to write a post for each product, which would require much more time and effort.

Ciao carissimi,

Oggi ritorno con una recensione di un prodotto per la cura della pelle ed il prodotto di cui vi parlerò oggi è il Siero viso ad alta efficacia Ialuron Plus del marchio italiano Bottega Verde. Devo fare una precisazione già dall’inizio, cioè che bensì avessi comprato questo prodotto diverse volte perché mi aveva soddisfatto, al momento non pianifico di ricomprarlo per il semplice fatto che ho delle scorte del medesimo prodotto e perché ho ricevuto tantissimi sieri viso in regalo che mi basteranno per almeno un anno. Detto ciò, procederò con la mia recensione come ho sempre fatto finora.

Informazioni dal produttore: grazie alla formula in gel con acido Ialuronico concentrato apporta alla pelle idratazione per un'efficace azione anti-age aiutando a trattenere l’acqua normalmente presente nelle cellule e donando pertanto volume e compattezza. Riducendo l'aspetto delle rughe, migliora la condizione generale della pelle che appare più fresca, morbida, soda e levigata. Può essere usato per ogni tipo di pelle ed è ottimo come base per il trucco o combinato ad altri trattamenti viso.

Packaging: tubo in vetro dotato di un contagocce e contenente 30 ml di prodotto

Prezzo: 36 € o $ 42 a prezzo pieno ma molto spesso si trova scontato del 50% o di più. Personalmente non l’ho mai pagato più di 10€.

Consistenza: gel moderatamente denso

Fragranza: piacevole, delicato e quasi impercettibile

Valutazione personale: ho usato con soddisfazione questo siero per diversi mesi, ho anche regalato qualche confezione ad amiche e persone care. Nonostante fosse indicato per le persone fra i 40 ed i 50 anni, io ho iniziato ad usarlo anche prima di aver compiuto i 40 anni. La prima cosa che ho apprezzato durante l’applicazione, è la qualità del contagocce. Ho provato diversi sieri finora, alcuni senza contagocce altri con contagocce di dubbia qualità e appena ho aperto la sua confezione ho capito che dosare questo siero sarebbe stato molto facile. La sua consistenza gel moderatamente densa facilita l’applicazione e l’assorbimento nella pelle. Appena applicato rende la pelle soffice ma soda allo stesso tempo, levigata e luminosa. Mi ritengo soddisfatta di questo siero e considero che scontato a partire dal 50% in su possa avere un buon rapporto qualità prezzo. Tuttavia, non lo acquisterei e non lo avrei mai acquistato a prezzo pieno. La lista degli ingredienti breve, è un altro aspetto che apprezzo.

PRO: alto contenuto di acido ialuronico, spesso scontato, confezione facile da usare

CONTRO: confezione in vetro

Conclusione: consiglio questo siero alle persone che desiderano combattere e limitare l’aspetto delle rughe e cercano un prodotto semplice, con alto contenuto di acido ialuronico spesso a prezzi scontati.

Today I'm back with a review of a skincare product, and the product I'll be discussing today is the Ialuron Plus High-Effectiveness Facial Serum from the Italian brand Bottega Verde. I should clarify right from the start: although I've purchased this product several times because I was satisfied with it, I don't currently plan to buy it again simply because I have stock of the same product and because I've received so many other facial serums that I'll last at least a year. That said, I'll proceed with my review as I always have.

Manufacturer's information: thanks to its gel formula with concentrated hyaluronic acid, it provides hydration to the skin for an effective anti-aging effect, helping to retain the water normally present in cells and thus providing volume and firmness. By reducing the appearance of wrinkles, it improves the overall condition of the skin, making it appear fresher, softer, firmer, and smoother. It can be used on all skin types and is excellent as a makeup base or combined with other facial treatments.

Price: €36 or $42 full price, but it's often discounted by 50% or more. I've never paid more than €10.

Personal evaluation: I've been using this serum with satisfaction for several months, even giving some bottles as gifts to friends and loved ones. Although it's intended for people in their 40s and 50s, I started using it even before I turned 40. The first thing I appreciated when applying it was the quality of the dropper. I've tried several serums so far, some without droppers, others with droppers of questionable quality, and as soon as I opened the bottle, I realized that dosing this serum would be very easy. Its moderately thick gel consistency makes it easy to apply and absorb into the skin. Upon application, it leaves skin soft yet firm, smooth, and radiant. I'm satisfied with this serum and believe that discounts of 50% or more suggest good value. However, I wouldn't buy it, and I never would have purchased it at full price. The short ingredient list is another aspect I appreciate.

PROS: high hyaluronic acid content, often discounted, easy-to-use packaging

CONS: Glass container

Conclusion: I recommend this serum to people who want to combat and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and are looking for a simple product with a high hyaluronic acid content, often at discounted prices.

Sconosciute di Patrick Modiano - recensione letteraria / Des inconnues by Patrick Modiano - book review

 

Il libro che recensirò oggi è il romanzo Sconosciute dello scrittore e sceneggiatore francese, premiato nel 2014 con il Premio Nobel per la letteratura, un riconoscimento importante per la sua “arte della memoria con la quale ha evocato i destini umani più inesplicabili e scoperto il mondo della vita nel tempo dell'occupazione”, Patrick Modiano. Modiano nacque nel 1945 da un padre francese di origini ebraico – italiane, con dei trascorsi loschi che lo aiutarono a sopravvivere durante la seconda guerra mondiale, e una madre belga. La figura del padre ha fortemente influito la sua opera in quanto in diverse creazioni, tra queste anche nel libro Sconosciute, inserisce personaggi di discendenza italiana o ebrea che si macchiano di atti disdicevoli e intenzioni riprovevoli. Visto che siamo arrivati a nominare il nostro libro e visto che ho già precisato aspetti importanti che riguardano i personaggi maschili, devo precisare però che i personaggi principali di questo romanzo sono 3 giovane ragazze, ognuna la protagonista di una vicenda traumatica e triste. Nonostante fossero accompagnate da amici, famigliari e conoscenze, queste tre ragazze affrontano da sole le situazioni con cui si confrontano e ne subiscono anche le conseguenze sempre in solitudine.

La prima ragazza si trova immischiata in una situazione piena di ambiguità, conosce diplomati, mafiosi, criminali e s’innamora di un ragazzo il cui vero nome non lo conosce realmente ma che la condiziona nelle scelte che farà in futuro. La seconda ragazza dopo essere vissuta in un internato e un convitto di suore, decide di scapare e vivere la vita lontana dalla monotonia e le regole rigide ma questa decisione la porta ad affrontare situazioni di violenza sessuale e stupro. La terza storia, anche se in apparenza è la più inoffensiva, se non si è un’attivista dei diritti degli animali, nonostante sembrasse inconclusa o almeno più delle altre, in realtà cella diversi traumi che questa ragazza subisce e che si porterà con sé per tutta la vita. Quello che accomuna le tre ragazze è l’età molto giovane e l’aspetto attraente che concorrerà alla causalità di tutti gli eventi che dovranno subire. Non hanno delle doti particolari, provengono da famiglie disagiate e addirittura sono state abbandonate alla mercé dello stato e ognuna di loro ha, a modo suo, una capacità di farsi notare dagli altri e far siche le cose nella loro vita accadano. Per certi versi potrebbero benissimo essere una chiunque di noi e credo che in fin dei conti, questa sia una delle intenzioni dello scrittore, fare in modo che le lettrici s’immedesimassero nelle storie delle sue protagoniste.

La narrazione è scorrevole e accattivante e anche se questo romanzo non è una delle sue opere migliori e sicuramente non è l’opera che le ha valso il Nobel, il suo stile è riconoscibile e rende queste storie, in apparenza semplici, molto interessanti e degne di pause di riflessione. Consiglio questo libro per la sua capacità di catturare l’attenzione e trasportarla attraverso i capitoli in un susseguirsi di momenti di tensione e riflessione.

The book I'm reviewing today is the novel Des inconnues (original title) by the French writer and screenwriter, who won the 2014 Nobel Prize in Literature, an important recognition for his "art of memory with which he evoked the most inexplicable human destinies and uncovered the world of life during the occupation", Patrick Modiano. Modiano was born in 1945 to a French father of Italian-Jewish origins, with a shady past that helped him survive the Second World War, and a Belgian mother. The figure of his father has greatly influenced his work, as in several of his works, including Unknown, he introduces characters of Italian or Jewish descent who commit unsavory acts and reprehensible intentions. Since we've come to the point of naming our book, and since I've already highlighted important aspects regarding the male characters, I must point out that the main characters in this novel are three young women, each one being the protagonist of a traumatic and sad story. Despite being accompanied by friends, family, and acquaintances, these three girls encounter situations that they face alone and will also suffer the consequences in solitude.

The first girl finds herself caught up in a situation full of ambiguity, meets high school graduates, mobsters, and criminals, and falls in love with a boy whose real name she doesn't actually know, but who influences her future choices. The second girl, after living in a boarding school and a convent, decides to escape and live a life far from monotony and rigid rules, but this decision leads her to face sexual violence and rape. The third story, though seemingly the most harmless—unless you're an animal rights activist—despite appearing unfinished, or at least less so than the others, actually harbors several traumas that this girl endures and will carry with her for the rest of her life. What the three girls have in common is their very young age and attractive appearance, which will contribute to the causality of all the events they will have to endure. They have no special talents, they come from disadvantaged families and were even abandoned to the mercy of the state, and each of them has, in her own way, the ability to stand out to others and make things happen in their lives. In some ways, they could easily be any of us, and I believe that ultimately, this is one of the author's intentions: to make readers identify with the stories of his protagonists.

The narrative is fluid and captivating, and while this novel isn't one of her best works, and certainly not the work that won her the Nobel Prize, her style is recognizable and makes these seemingly simple stories highly interesting and worthy of pause for thought. I recommend this book for its ability to capture your attention and draw you through the chapters in a succession of moments of tension and reflection.

Donne che hanno fatto la storia / Women that made history

Carissimi lettori e soprattutto carissime lettrici, oggi è la festa della donna e vista l'occasione ho deciso di parlarvi di alcune donne che hanno fatto la storia. Non mi riferisco a personalità che hanno contribuito ad eventi storici come regine, guerriere o attiviste ma, visto che uno dei criteri su cui la società si organizza, sono i riconoscimenti ed i premi internazionali, oggi, vi parlerò di donne che si sono fatte notare e che sono state insignite con premi come il Nobel o il Pulitzer per scoperte stardinarie, frutto di duro lavoro e di incontestabile talento. 

Donne che hanno ricevuto un premio Nobel per la scienza:

Marie Curie, nata Maria Salomea Skłodowska, dopo il matrimonio mantenne entrambi i cognomi, è stata la prima donna in assoluto e unica a ricevere due Nobel in due discipline diverse, nel 1903 per la Fisica e nel 1911 per la Chimica. Nata in Polonia, Marie ha studiato a Parigi, a Sorbona, dove ha anche insegnato. La sua figlia più grande, Irène Joliot-Curie ha seguito le tracce di sua madre ed è stata anche lei insignita con il Nobel per la Chimica nel 1935. Visto il momento storico che viviamo, vorrei portare alla vostra attenzione alcune delle frasi che Marie Curie pronunciò in relazione al suo lavoro nel campo delle radiazioni:"L’umanità ha bisogno di uomini pratici, che ottengano il massimo dal loro lavoro e, senza dimenticare il bene generale, tutelino i propri interessi" e "Se la nostra scoperta ha un futuro commerciale, è una circostanza dalla quale non dovremmo trarre profitto. Se il radio verrà utilizzato nel trattamento delle malattie, è impossibile per noi trarne vantaggio".

Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin che nel 1964 fu insignita con il Nobel per le sue scoperte nella cristallografia a raggi X. Le sue scoperte nel campo della Chimica riguardarono la determinazione di biomolecole come il colesterolo (1937), la penicillina (1945), la vitamina B12 (1954 che le valse effettivamente il Nobel), l'insulina (1969), la lattoglobulina, la ferritina e la vitamina D3. Inoltre, tra il 1942 e il 1949 riuscì in una delle imprese più ambite per quell'epoca: determinare la struttura del primo antibiotico conosciuto, la penicillina. 

Rita Levi-Montalcini (1986 Medicina) la prima donna italiana a vincere un Nobel scientifico per la scoperta del Nerve Growth Factor. So che le sue scoperte sono state essenziali negli studi sul cancro, Parkinson e Alzheimer e mi auguro soltanto che un giorno, partendo dalle sue scoperte, qualcuno scopra delle cure per la SM e la SLA. Nella sua lunga vita, ha ricevuto diversi premi e lauree honoris causa ma il suo lavoro non fu importante solo nella medicina ma anche nella lotta per l'uguaglianza fra i sessi. In tal senso desidero farvi leggere alcune sue riflessioni in merito: "L'umanità è fatta di uomini e donne e deve essere rappresentata da entrambi i sessi".

Emmanuelle Charpentier e Jennifer Doudna sono altre due donne che sono state premiate con il Nobel per la Chimica. Nel 2020 sono state insignite con il Nobel per lo sviluppo della tecnologia CRISPR-Cas9, un metodo rivoluzionario di editing genomico definito "forbici molecolari". Questa tecnica permette di modificare il DNA di microrganismi, piante e animali  con grande precisione, velocità e a basso costo, trasformando la ricerca genetica e aprendo nuove strade per ke terapie contro malattie ereditarie e cancro. 

Ho voluto parlare di queste donne per portare alla conoscenza di tutti il valore inestimabile che il lavoro di queste donne ha portato al progresso della scienza e della società. Sappiamo tutto questo e sapremo tanto altro ancora grazie al fatto che queste donne hanno deciso di mettere in gioco il loro ingegno perché tutti noi potessimo avere una vita più serena, più lunga, più facile e migliore di quella che hanno vissuto loro. Non so voi, ma io non posso non chiedermi come sarebbe la nostra vita senza tutte queste scoperte...

Donne che hanno ricevuto il premio Nobel per la Letteratura:

Grazia Deledda: la prima e l'unica italiana finora, a ricevere un Nobel per la sua prosa che ritrae la vita in Sardegna.

Toni Morrison:  la prima donna afroamericana a ricevere un simile riconoscimento, ha dato voce all'esperienza delle donne nere, descrivendo in chiave metaforica le barbarie della schiavitù e delle discriminazioni razziali. 

Herta Müller: scrittrice e poetessa tedesca nata in Romania, nota per le sue opere sulla dittatura comunista.

Svjatlana Aleksievič: giornalista ucraino - bielorussa nota per la sua prosa documentaristica dove denuncia le atrocità della seconda guerra mondiale, del regime politico nella vecchia URSS e dei conflitti che tuttora colpiscono quei territori. 

Un'altra donna della quale desidero parlarvi anche se non ha vinto un Nobel per la letteratura è Harper Lee. Questa scrittrice è famosa per il romanzo "Il buio oltre la siepe", titolo originale "To Kill a Mockingbird", che le valse il Premio Pulitzer nel 1961 e nel 2007 la Medaglia presidenziale della libertà con la motivazione: "Ha influenzato il carattere del nostro paese in meglio. È stato un dono per il mondo intero. Come modello di buona scrittura e sensibilità umana questo libro verrà letto e studiato per sempre."

Ci sono tantissime altre donne che hanno ricevuto il Nobel per la letteratura ma io ho desiderato parlarvi di coloro che io ho letto negli ultimi anni. Ho recensito diversi libri scritti da queste meravigliose donne e ho pubblicato svariati post al riguardo perciò se avete voglia di rispolverare e familiarizzarvi con la scrittura di queste donne, basta digitare il loro nome nalla casella di ricerca a destra. 

Ognuna di queste persone era prima di tutto una donna normale ed il loro duro lavoro è motivo di orgoglio per ognuna di noi. Oggi, possiamo ricordare tutte loro, le donne nominate prima e tutte le altre donne che oggi non ho nominato perché forse non conosco ma che sicuramente un giorno sarò fiera di farlo perché il regalo più grande che possiamo farci in questo giorno è quello di essere felici e orgogliose di essere donne.

Dear readers, today is International Women's Day, and given the occasion, I've decided to talk to you about some women who have made history. I'm not referring to personalities who have contributed to historic events such as queens, warriors, or activists, but, since one of the criteria by which society is organized is international recognition and awards, today I'll talk to you about women who have stood out and who have been honored with prizes such as the Nobel Prize or the Pulitzer Prize for groundbreaking discoveries, the fruit of hard work and undeniable talent.

Women who have received a Nobel Prize in Science:

Marie Curie, born Maria Salomea Skłodowska, who retained both surnames after her marriage, was the first woman ever and only woman to receive two Nobel Prizes in two different disciplines, in 1903 for Physics and in 1911 for Chemistry. Born in Poland, Marie studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, where she also taught. Her eldest daughter, Irène Joliot-Curie, followed in her mother's footsteps and was also awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1935. Given the historical moment we live in, I would like to bring to your attention some of the quotes Marie Curie uttered regarding her work in the field of radiation: "Humanity needs practical persons, who get the most out of their work and, without forgetting the general good, protect their own interests" and "If our discovery has a commercial future, it is a circumstance from which we should not profit. If radium is used in the treatment of disease, it is impossible for us to profit from it."

Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1964 for her discoveries in X-ray crystallography, was the first to receive the Nobel Prize. Her discoveries in the field of chemistry included the determination of biomolecules such as cholesterol (1937), penicillin (1945), vitamin B12 (1954, which actually earned her the Nobel Prize), insulin (1969), lactoglobulin, ferritin, and vitamin D3. Furthermore, between 1942 and 1949, she achieved one of the most coveted achievements of her time: determining the structure of the first known antibiotic, penicillin.

I know her discoveries have been instrumental in research on cancer, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's, and I only hope that one day, building on her discoveries, someone will discover cures for MS and ALS. Throughout her long life, she received numerous awards and honorary degrees, but her work was not only important in medicine but also in the fight for gender equality. In this regard, I would like to share with you some of her reflections on this matter: "Humanity is made up of men and women and must be represented by both sexes."

Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna are two other women who have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. In 2020, they were awarded the Nobel Prize for their development of CRISPR-Cas9 technology, a revolutionary method of genome editing known as "molecular scissors." This technique allows the DNA of microorganisms, plants, and animals to be modified with great precision, speed, and low cost, transforming genetic research and opening new avenues for therapies against hereditary diseases and cancer.

I wanted to talk about these women to raise awareness of the inestimable value their work has brought to the progress of science and society. We know all this and will know so much more thanks to the fact that these women chose to deploy their ingenuity so that we could all live a more peaceful, longer, easier, and better life than they did. I don't know about you, but I can't help but wonder what our lives would be like without all these discoveries...

Women who have received the Nobel Prize in Literature:

Grazia Deledda: the first and only Italian to receive a Nobel Prize for her prose, which portrays life in Sardinia.

Toni Morrison: the first African-American woman to receive such an award, she gave voice to the experience of black women, metaphorically describing the barbarities of slavery and racial discrimination.

Herta Müller: Romanian-born German writer and poet, known for her works on the communist dictatorship.

Svjatlana Aleksievič: Ukrainian-Belarusian journalist known for her documentary prose denouncing the atrocities of World War II, the political regime in the former USSR, and the conflicts that still affect those territories.

Another woman I'd like to talk to you about, even though she didn't win a Nobel Prize in Literature, is Harper Lee. This writer is famous for her novel "To Kill a Mockingbird," which won her the Pulitzer Prize in 1961 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2007, with the citation: "It has influenced the character of our country for the better. It has been a gift to the world. As a model of good writing and human sensitivity, this book will be read and studied forever."

There are many other women who have received the Nobel Prize in Literature, but I wanted to tell you about the ones I've read in recent years. Each of these people was, first and foremost, a normal woman, and their hard work is a source of pride for each of us. Today, we can remember all of them, the women mentioned above and all the other women I haven't mentioned today because perhaps I don't know them, but who I will surely be proud to do so one day, because the greatest gift we can give ourselves on this day is to be happy and proud to be women.
